16x5.5 inch rear wheel converted to dual dics front wheel

ok I needed a wheel for a trike build and wanted a wide tire so this is how the wheel mods got started.
1.shows wheel and hubcap I built at first,, was going to go with one rotor- I cut about 1/2 off the drive pulley side of wheel at this point to made it look a little cleaner as front wheel.
2. when I decided to make it dual rotor I cut a additional 1/4 inch from pulley side of wheel and cut fingers back so that I could add my adaptor to wheel and both rotors would be aprox. same distance out-from wheel center.
3. cut a bearing recess location into outboard side of adaptor also counter sunk 5 - 3/8 mounting bolt holes and tapped 5 rotor 5/16 bolt holes.
4. installed adaptor and you can see the step in od of adaptor (where red layout goes to raw aluminum) where the hubcap will set.
5.shows rotor fitment to adaptor

ok this is what wheel looks like when done
1. hubcap center opened to 3.900" to fit adaptor od step and 5-1/4 mounting holes counter-sank
2. hubcap on wheel hub.
3.right side rotor installed.
4. just a look at how everything centered up..
there are more details on this in my 3.8 super charged trike build in home built trike's here at trike talk,,, but know that a lot of you guys are just looking for wheel info hope this helps!

Pretty impressive but looks like a lot of work.
Just how long did it take you to complete this mod?
How's the ride now that you made this change?

(Oh, one more thing ... I've looked at all your pictures pretty closely but still can't find the two dicks referenced in the title of this thread. )

Jaxbobg, They are a little hard to see but he took a rear wheel which would normally have just one brake rotor and the drive sprocket. He modified the sprocket side to attach a rotor. If you look rear close in the last picture you can see rotors one on each side. Quite the mod.

I spent a few hours,,, it took about 3 hours to machine the adaptor and about 2 hours to machine side of wheel down remove material inside-drill and tap mounting hole's etc.
I started this thread as I know many folks have talked about wide wheel and tire I could not find a front wheel wide enough for 7" tire so this was my way to get there-if you use single disc just machine side off like I did at first or a machinist could probably do this faster than I did but I got time- sorry if some of my spelln is off...:xzqxz:

Wow! Color me impressed! I'm using the same style HD wheel on the trike I'm building, only the standard front one which is a paltry 3 inches wide.
