Have any of you ever wished there was a “Sturgis” type event for Trikers? Have you ever wanted to explore that corner of South Dakota without the crowds? Well this year you will have that chance. First Gold Casino and Resort in Deadwood, SD. is hosting a Three Wheeler Rally from July 16 thru July 19 and they have committed to continue this rally for the next 5 years. There will be a Trike Show n Shine, scenic rides, a scavenger hunt and lots of social events throughout the 3 day event. For more information contact Teresas@firstgold.com or call 800-274-1876 ext1102. It sure sounds like a greattime.

I also have reservations for Sturgis at the same place we stayed last year. The 75th should be one of the biggest ever. If this Trike rally takes hold I will try it next year. Be safe and enjoy the ride. Larry

Hope it catches on....just too close to Sturgis this year for me. My 30th year to ride. Did the Chip T.O.U.R. ride (swim meet) last year and had a great time. Suppose to do it again this year but haven't heard anything yet.

Really kinda surprised they'd try to kick something like this off this year with it being the 75th anniv. Most people already have their reservations and such in place (or at least they'd better) for Sturgis. Just too far (1000 miles) to turn around and ride back 2 weeks later.

Texan,
I'm in agreement with you and I'm only about 400 miles away. I'm pretty much committed to Sturgis this year, planning on attending the T.O.U.R. again (will be my 3rd time), plus I will be hosting the TT/TOI Meet/Ride event again, the following day. I may consider it next year, however, as it would be nice to leisurely tour the Black Hills will a lot less 2 wheel traffic to contend with, plus the bonus of cheaper lodging costs.

Tried to make the TT/TOI last year but it was TOO danged early in the morning. My buddy Al from SeeThroughBraz made it but I couldn't. I know Cheyenne gets busy later but I had a rough night and couldn't get back on the trike. This Parkensons kicks my A$$ sometimes in the mornings.

My original plan for this year was to make Sturgis, but being I really don't like crowds I changed my plans after finding this forum. Then I was planning on attending the Western Tour, but decided with limited vacation time and the fact it's about a 2,200 mile round trip just to get to the start of the tour, I would go with Deadwood. I've made reservations at First Gold. I'm looking forward to some nice scenic rides without having to dodge a few thousand other bikes and trikes along the way. With a little luck I'll get to meet some folks from this forum.

Sturgis with 500 K people is too crowded for me, with over 1 mil projected this year we decided that we have more than enough T shirts so will pass. The Deadwood rally sounds like fun so we registered and made reservations at Cadillac Jacks. See you there! :clapping:

Sturgis WITHOUT the Hells Angels wannabes and half a million drunk bikers! Count me in! I'd love to do this as an annual ride.

I've downloaded the registration form, but don't see any information on motel room discounts or block reservations. One of the motel web sites shows no rooms available for the 16th and the 18th. Is there a room reservation code?

I am not aware of any room reservation codes. If you are a BTW (Brothers of the Third Wheel) member, First Gold hotel is offering a discount given upon check-in (you must show your current BTW membership card). There is a 50% discount on registration for the event as well as the discount at First Gold Hotel just for BTW members. I hope to see you there!

I've been doing a bit more research on this "event" planned for Deadwood S.D. and the more I see, the more I don't like. The two CASINOS that are sponsoring this event sound like real winners... One looks like a "no-tell motel" and the other wants $350 PER NIGHT for a room! Unless they provide hot and cold running hookers, I'm NOT paying $350 PER NIGHT for ANY motel room.

Maybe I'll just plan my own trip to the black hills for some other weekend, and miss all the "excitement" of another casino sponsored "event".

Neither of the hotels listed fall into the No Tell category. Both are rather decent but remember that nothing in the Hills during the summer months will be cheap. Casinos are not attractive to me either but no one will force you to gamble. Deadwood is a very compact town in a canyon so all of the hotels/motels are situated along the one highway through town. Go to deadwood dot org which gives a full listing of lodging, maps, etc.

Wouldn't mind going myself.
Don't really care for the 'event' thing though. Hate to pay in advance, be tied down to some motel for a ditty-bag and shine-and-show thing.

Sturgis is definitely out. I can watch that on TV (sans boobage). :(

How about a few of us getting together around that time frame, arrive/leave when you want, stay where you want, and do our own thing?

There have been about 5,200 views of this post. Who if anyone other than myself is planning to attend?

We are planning to go. Leaving on Wednesday night, and stopping in Mitchell SD. Then on from there. Not sure on coming back Sun. or Mon. yet. One other rider from town is also going.

As I stated earlier, we will be there. For those who don't care for I-90 both Hwy 14 from Brookings to Pierre and Hwy 34 from Ft Pierre to Sturgis are in very good shape. Just don't miss the gas station in Union Center on 34 (125 miles from Ft Pierre)!

Still up in the air on this one.

Tried to look up room rates, but the motel shows 16-19 booked.

What kind of room rates are we talking? (save me a call).
