Thread: Torn about exhaust on my 21 Tri Glide

    Default Torn about exhaust on my 21 Tri Glide

    I have the S&S grand National slip ons but I want to reduce the heat by either removing the catalyst by cutting it out or replacing with a new head pipe like the Fuelmoto stainless steel one.. Any experiences or opinions shared would be appreciated. I came from a 14 Tri Glide with a V&H a pipe and a 07 Electra with 2 into1 both with no catalyst and I can tell the heat differences already.

    Why not go with the V and H header again. They work well.

    I went with the one from Fulsac, the Sport pipe. they give you a $100 core charge back once you send the stock head pipe back. These are cheaper than a completely new pipe. If you check out their website you will see that it is more than just a gutted pipe.

    It’s $799.00 from Fullsac. I believe the one from Fuelmoto is $499

    The head pipe I have was called the Sport pipe, it looks like it is no longer available. They took a stock head pipe and removed the complete section that housed the cat, then replaced it with two individual pipes. It was $399.

    Notgrownup, I just removed the pipe and drilled out the catalytic converter and put it back on. I failed to measure the temp before I removed it but afterwards the temp at the catalytic converter area is only about 121º after a half hour ride. It really cleans out pretty nice. Oh I did put the DEI heat shields on when I put the pipe back on so that helped I'm sure.

    This seems to me to be the best solution. I’ve done the DEI heat shields on my 21TG, and it has turned out to be my “best bang for the bucks” mod. I’ll do the cat removal after the extended warranty runs out.

    In our experience, the OEM header with the cat removed is a very good design. Some others that use the factory header shields, will perform slightly better, but not enough improvement for most people to feel while they are riding.

    To get more power, that you will feel, you will need to go to a 2 into 1 header design.

    For heat reduction, all of them with no cat will be significantly different.

    Another option (that we have been testing for a few months with good results) is the DEI Heat Shield Liner Kit.

    And, of course, putting TTI's in the slip ons will reduce reversion, speeding up exhaust gas velocity. This will result in more power And Less Heat.
