Gotta love Texas

Those look kinda tame compared to a patch I got into a few years ago at Lake Bob Sandlin...got ate up. At least 30 on each leg and many more in unmentionable places.

Some of the best Q I've had in Texas are the roadside ones...ya'll know...a guy sitting under a shade canopy, pickup truck on one side, smoker and a stack of oak on the other side. Never pass one by.

Kinda like the "Monkey Meat" vendors on Magsaysay Dr. in downtown Olongpo, Phillipines.

Wow ... that takes me back ... Not to mention Shackey's pizza where the sauce is made from bananas .. :D

I think Olongpo is pretty much gone ... Pinutubo destroyed Clark Air Base and Subic Naval Station .. and if I'm not mistaken, they didn't rebuild either base.

We were pulling into Subic as Pinutubo erupted ... what a mess.

I ate a lot of suspect food on my international travels while working in the oil field but I never did (knowingly) try the Monkey Meat! Only time I ever got sick was in China. Thought I was going to have to die to get better. Was glad to get back home to Texas after that trip!

Olongapo is still there and The Naval Base is still pretty much the same as it was except the Navy is no longer around. After the Air Force moved out of Clark, the base was stripped of anything of value by the people of Angles City, but when the Navy move out of Subic, The Mayor of Olongapo established a Voluntary Security force to protect the base buildings and now that is a major shopping center. Cubi Point air base is now the Fedex transfer station for the far East. Subic Officers Club is now a big Casino. Grande Island is now a resort. The Tender that I was on pulled into Subic after Pinatubo blew and spent a couple of weeks helping clean up the base.
