Right to carry

Levittown Pa. USA
The other day I posted in "general" about my day trip in N.J. After crossing the bridge from Pa. and taking the ramp that will lead onto Rt. 29 I passed the bill board that said to the effect <b>"get caught carring, atomatic 3-5 years"</b> with a lovely picture of a semi automatic in the back waistband of a pair of jeans.<br />
Do you think the criminals laugh when they see that sign? What would happen, I wonder, if the people of N.J. sued the state regarding this apparent violation.<br />
In all fairness though, Pa. had more gun related murders compared to N.J. but Pa. poulation is about 4,000,000 higher than N.J. I did a bit more of a coparison nationwide, and if look online at the variety of stats; population, gun crimes, gun related murders and many other evaluation's you do find interesting comparisons by %'s.<br />
Thank God for the 2nd amendment and the states that honor it.<br />

We're all aware of the wailing and moaning that starts up when some nut case with a gun starts shooting, taking innocent lives. I wonder if anyone, anywhere tracks the number of crimes that are prevented by someone being around with a weapon at the ready and willing to use it to protect others.

Here are some of those stats for you 2006gold:
Of the 5,000 incidents reported between October 2003 and November 2011, 488 involved home burglaries along with another 1,227 incidents where intruders fled when confronted by armed inhabitants. Another 34 concerned pizza delivery drivers defending themselves......Concerns about an attacker taking a gun away from an armed victim were proven invalid, with 227 incidents reported where the intended victim disarmed his attacker, while just 11 attackers disarmed his victim. Twenty-five rapes were avoided by armed victims. Two hundred and one attacks were neutralized by armed senior citizens (over age 65, according to the authors).....The study also identified 36 cases where the defender lost his life during the incident but that compares to the 210 cases where the perpetrator was shot by his intended victim. Sixty-five carjackings were successfully ended by an armed citizen who used his weapon to defend himself.
These stats are from an article in "A Nation in Peril".

It's unfortunate this kind of information isn't reported with the same intensity as mass shootings. There might not be such a cry for increased gun control. When getting my fingerprints taken for my CHL a fellow from England was there. Since no one there is allowed to have a handgun I asked him what the crime rate was like. He said it was totally out of control with the criminals running rampant over honest citizens. Sad.

My thoughts are that after every act of terror we are told we should not judge all muslims based on the actions of a few. Isn't it time 80 million legal gun owners in America get the same treatment.
My gun is like the American Express Card. I never leave home with out it.
If a City or State will not allow me to carry my gun I simply do not go there.
I'm legal to carry in 30 states. I simply do not go to the other 20 which are CA, OR, WA, MN, IL, GA, SC, WV, PA, NY, ME, NH, MA, CT, RI, NJ, DE, MD, DC, & HI.

My TN permit allows me carry rights in all but 11 states. Most of those states won't allow out of state permits, so no way to be legal there.<br />

</div>My MS permit works the same way.

I did check, I can get out of state permits which will make me legal in all but 2 states, CA and HI. It'd be expensive though, as those 9 states are all individual.

I don't carry and I go to all of the states!

Well,,,, Good for YOU! clapping
And Thanks :xzqxz: for sharing.

:10: I totally agree with you. If I went to Canada I would not be able to legally carry over there.

My comment was not intended to offend nor be judgemental. I just responded to what was my immediate reaction - what a shame that something was standing in the way of a fellow motorcycle rider from enjoying all of the great roads and experiences to be enjoyed in each/all of the States.

If I offended you, please accept my apology!

"Offended" ,,, No.
Fully "Aware" of your Intent ,,, YES.
Actually quite transparent and obvious.

P.s. No apology necessary. It IS-What IT Is.

Calgary, It's ok. It's obviously a "chord" that you stuck here in the USA. We want all your trips here to be safe.
The stats I posted are just a part of it. And when you see it happening, either real or by the news, for many of us it is a very real concern. I was held up at gunpoint-carjacked-kidnapped, (as an adult kidnapping still applies). I was in New Jersey so couldn't carry, during the ordeal, which lasted about 45minutes, I feigned a heart attack adn was able to talk myself out of harms way. The perp was eventually caught, served 12 yrs, 3 for each offence, and by now is walking the streets again....Humm, I wonder whats on his mind.

I have a Non resident PA license, I have to say PA is one of the more friendly states to carry in. I spend a lot of time in PA and have yet to see a single no gun allowed sign, IMO PA gets a ThumbUp.

I certainly was not offended.

No apology need. All is good.
