Does anyone have a Baker Reverse installed? How do you like it? Would you do it again?

(I am not trying to be rude but, please do not reply with " I have a "(brand)" and" like it etc.)

I am interested in people's experience with the Baker Reverse

I have the Baker reverse kit on mine. Works very well. The wires coming out of the solenoids are easily damaged and my clumsy mechanic (that would be me) recently pulled the wires out of the ends of both solenoids while in process of reinstall engine crank case after overhaul, so watch out for that.

It will not shift into reverse if not in neutral. The shift into reverse is a simple operation with the two handlebar mounted switches. The shift out of reverse can be done with one handlebar switch or just by shifting out of neutral.

I purchased mine already installed by Baker on the 5speed builder's kit so I can't say compare ease of installation with other kits (Champion, for example).

I have one installed on a TGU 2015 and love it.

My reason for the Baker was the operation by the gear switch and its super handy if you have to rank in narrow places.

There is another controller in the kit. I think it is the reason, while the gearbox works better than before. The switch into neutral from the first is more accurate and works always with a gentle heel kick. The only disadvantage is, that you can no longer switch from second gear into neutral. I don’t know, if it’s only mine. Asked the question to another Baker owner in a german Harley forum, but got no answer, hopefully here...

This disadvantage is not so bad for me, because I meet it only in city traffic and on the other side, I have better switching in all other cases.

I hope this helps.

PS: Just remember one other thing ... installation of some sort of easyclutch is no longer possible, because of the new gear cover

I have the Baker Reverse but my friend rewired it so the second position on the key switch is the lockout and a small button on my mini dash is the reverse. I have always liked it and even when I had the handle bar switches it worked great.

Champion kit here!

I have a baker reverse installed on my 2016 ultra that I converted to a trike.

I've had it now installed for 2 years - works great - easy to use and would install it again.

Good Luck on yours.

Baker reverse

I know this is an old thread, but I'm hoping someone will reply. I have a 2007 Ultra Classic with a Motor Trike Trog kit and a Baker reverse. I bought the trike used. When I took delivery of the trike, the previous owner schooled me on operating the Baker: Start the trike in neutral, shift to 1st gear, lift the reverse lever up while again shifting into 1st gear (you will feel reverse engaging) slowly release the clutch to back up. To dis-engage the reverse, shift to 2nd gear. I've been doing it this way since I got the trike.....am I doing it wrong???

I had the Modo Trike reverse on my 2011 Triglide … apples to oranges maybe?… I would hold the Clutch lever in then pop it into neutral while still holding the clutch put the reverse lever into reverse and start the engine and slowly release the clutch then back up to disengage the reverse I will just hold clutch lever in pull the reverse lever back and pop into first and drive off …

Yes, totally different. The TriGlide reverse is electric while the Baker is mechanical, an actual gear in the transmission with engagement via a solenoid. The Baker shift pattern is: R 1 N 2 3 4 5 6

I was on Baker's website today and confirmed that I'm doing it correctly. Thanks for the input!

Hah, that's a different thing altogether!!! So, you used a Champion reverse on your TG? I'm only aware of 3 reverses for Harleys: Champion, Baker & Yelvington.

Are there more???

I have a moto-trike reverse that installed a few months ago, and if the reverse is engaged and you put the transmission into gear it will kill the engine. It is an electrical safety feature that is tied into the neutral switch.
