Wheelbase Pros & Cons

Hi!

I'm contemplating getting a Yamaha Virago 1100 (1063 cc) and then adding a trike kit. Some will say, "oh no, they're way too ugly". Yet, I like the configuration, the looks and quickness of the Virago. The 1100 Virago wheelbase is 60 inches. Are there pros and cons to this shorter than normal wheelbase, with trike kit, added?:Shrug:

Yup I'd guess there are pros and cons... It sure would be responsive in the twisties!! On the down side it would also be a bit twitchy on the strait roads. It wouldn't take much of a rake kit (if one is even available) to make it almost unrideable.

I disagree about the looks. It would be one sporty little rascal!! Sort of like one of the "Match Box" cars. Didn't mean that as a negative at all... If you do this please post photos....

My Motor Trike Adventure is the shortest and narrowest conversion for a GL1800 it's really great in the twisties but still behaves on the open road.
 
I've always loved the 1100 Virago. It would make a great trike. There are a few here in Oz. I've heard that cam chains is a weak point on them but all bikes have their woes.

Go for it. Try and make it low making the most of the chopped look that is natural to the Virago.. I dont think the short wheelbase matters as long as the rear end doesnt sit too high IMO.
 
i like Nana have liked the looks of the Virago for quite some time. the front ought to have enough rate without changing it to handle very well. It would make a sporty trike.
 
You only go around once in life so DO IT!!!

Take your time and learn how it responds.

Bikers and trikers get in trouble when they don't really know their ride or respect it.

YOU HAVE MY BLESSINGS! Keep in mind that you need to find a light weight conversion and I would avoid a body kit, to save the weight. Most conversions weigh 200-375 lbs on average, if you go too heavy it will kill the "quickness" you like. When I did my Roadking conversion, I was very dissapointed about my loss in power-it's basically like having a 350 lb chick on the back of your bike---don't ask me how I know about this!!!!:Shrug::D:wave4:
