Hi ; I'm trying to find a cross reference # honda paint code 181Y 2006 gold wing titanium. dupont PPg or any other supplier. i thought honda used that paint on some of their autos any help would be welcome thanks..

I think I see what you want to do,maybe.... looking for a color match in the auto paint department that will be cheaper per quart? If that's what you were thinking probably won't work. Honda Goldwing paint is purty much a big secret. Their color match system for the wing is a three part system and the best price I have found on the paint it's self (one quart) is $80.00, then you have to buy the other two parts. They do sell touch up markers and such for 20.00 or so.

Have you tried to have it scanned, for color match, work great to get a real match.

Using color codes is sometimes not very close, won't work if you want it nearly perfect match.
Type gun ( brand ), distance you paint from object and air pressure makes a different too.

It depends on batch and lot numbers as well as far as color match goes. It's even that way with gun powders, if it's a different batch or lot number it may not shoot as well as the last batch. There is no way to make each and every lot and batch number identical to the last batch/lot # no matter what the product.

Or you could simply us US Paint, they are a supplier of aftermarket paints that are an exact color match for the GL1800. If you go to their site <a href="http://www.uspaint.com" target="_blank">U.S. Paint | Manufacturers of Custom Paint & Coatings</a> click on aftermarket paints, you will find all of the honda colors, as well as the US Paint codes for the Stallions there as well. It's a basic 2 stage paint.

1) Base Coat
2) Metallic Coat or Candy Coat
3) Clear Coat

Two Stage
1) Base Coat
2) Clear Coat

Reducer or accelerator has nothing to do with stage. Just for mixing the paint to a thin enough solution to be sprayed and/or decrease time for drying purposes.
It is important to do a 80% coverage on first spray, wait 10-15 minutes and do a finish coat. Let finished base coat dry 10-15 minutes and then apply as many clear coats as you want. If you do your self dust in the air is your biggest enemy,

Y181/Titanium (2006 model year) is "bullet-proof" as pertains to color matching from the big 3 (PPG, US Paint, ColorRite. Dupont only good for the "exotics" which are rarely used in by bike manufacturers if ever at all). You can order by that Y181/Y181P code (P signifies it is a pearl-coat hence the 3-stage) with impunity. As the prev poster(s) have said, the rest is up to the person performing the application.

What color are you trying to paint?

After looking around the internet and not finding enough info I'm just gonna say, YOU WIN. What I did on my trike was use automotive paint and then I put the metal flake in the clear coat.
