Last summer I have my 2001 BMW K1200 LT converted to a trike by using Hannigan trike kit, late summer, some idiot back in hit the front of the trike (hit and run), done a lot of damaged to the front end, estimated from BMW of Salt Lake came back is $14,270.70 I did not have full coverage on my trike, just liability only.

I have been look around for newer K1200 LT found one 2008 I am thinking to buy and have it install on my old trike kit 2001 K1200 Lt which was front end dammaged but the Hannigan kit still good.

I did call Hannigan company, support is worse than any company I ever deal with, they will not tell you anything or try to help any customer at all.

I need to know if I can use 2008 K1200 Lt install on 2001 kit I have left from the damaged.

Please let me know.

Did a Hannigan dealer do the 2001 conversion? If so, maybe you can contact your dealer. Even though the rear end appears okay, Hannigan may have concerns about what they may find when they do the work. Working with used parts is sometimes a problem. Would think that you will hear from Hannigan on our forum.

First, sincerely sorry for your predicament and the very unfortunate situation you are now in. Had you chosen to opt for Comp & Collision Insurance as opposed to Liability only, this issue would not exist. However, hindsight is 20/20 and our choices sometimes do present unpleasant ramifications and consequences.

To answer your question: Yes. It CAN be done. You CAN mount a 90mm Howitzer in a HumVee. But, as I was taught long ago, CAN does NOT equal SHOULD, Wise. or Adviseable regardless of how anyone rationalizes or justifies to fit their intended ends. In this instance, there are some known issues and several possibilities that can arise from "kit-swapping". Especially on the K1200LT platform and conversion. As such, it is unwise and imprudent for HMS or ANY Manufacturer to suggest or "co-sign" that endeavor.

The liability is unacceptable and not underwritten by Insurance. Also, you are already in a bad situation and to add further financial resources and effort in this manner stands a good possibility to leave you in even worse condition. For these and other reasons HMS unfortunately cannot participate in this solution.

The above was conveyed to you during your contact with HMS prior to this posting. I completely understand it was not what you wanted to hear and your frustration accordingly. I honestly do empathize with you and regret we are unable to provide you with what you are seeking or assist in your desired direction.

To portray the results of your decisions, desires, and the reckless actions of others as derogatory or a negative reflection on HMS and/or their Service and Commitment to their Clients is unfounded and incorrect.

Again, deepest sympathy to you and the unfortunate realities you are faced with.

Should you decide to go forward with this course of action, we wish you the best and hope it turns out as you desire with little or no issues as a result thereof.

Thank you for the answers, my 2001 K 1200LT was convert by HMS authorized dealer last summer, they workmanship are one of the best, I don't mind to pay for they work, but they told me the kit will work up to 2006 only, that why I want to make sure that is true. I 'm not do the work myself, I will have an authirized HMS do the job.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but keep in mind that I still have a 2000 K1200LT with less than 9000 miles. I am asking $14000 and it is like a new trike... Have it on consignment with DreamRider Trikes here in San Angelo...

I just bought 2007 and already have Cross Road Trike and Trailer do the conversion.

Thank you for the offered.

I'm surprised. My experience with Hannigan was 180 degrees from yours.

Just because I'm nosey, it would be interesting to know why your installer told you your kit would not fit a 2008 bike???
