Hi Everyone:

I have a 2009 Yahama Venture S and am looking forward to getting my Voyager added. There is a fellow in York, PA that is ordering it for me and will install it.

Since I am getting older (will be 69 in Sept) the Venture is a little too heavy for me when I ride with my wife. Okay by myself but when I add that 2nd person it is a little too top heavy for me.

I am looking forward to getting the Voyager. Should have it done in a couple of weeks.

I live in Chambersburg, PA and have 2 daughters, 5 grandkids, and 3 great grandkids. My wife Evelyn and I celebrated our 49th wedding anniversary in July.

Ev just started riding with me and that is the reason we bought the Venture (nice comfortable seats). She would never ride before but a couple of months ago I convinced her to take a short ride around the block and she loved it!!!

Take care everyone, I am looking forward to all the information that I will be able to get here about trikes, especially the Voyager.

Thanks much!!

I was physically/mentally challenged and had a Voyager kit on my '06 Electra-Glide Classic....for the price you can't beat it. Ease of mind that won't tip over (lol).

Just remember, whatever warranty you have on the 2-wheeler goes out the window as soon as you attach the kit.

Your wife will enjoy the ride.

Barbara

Hi Don, and a big welcome to TrikeTalk! You and your wife have many miles of fun together to look forward to. Can't wait to hear all about it! And bring on your questions--we've got tons of smart people to answer them (or at least make up an answer ).

Welcome to the board, Don, from Don. :wave4: Lot of changes in riding style when you add wheels - check out the tips from experienced riders in the General Forum and don't be shy asking questions.

I can give you a lot of dos and don'ts. I rode a 1980 1,100 Wing 2 years with out Voyager and then 2 years with one. Some + some - feelings and drawbacks. all in all the good out weight the bad. But make sure they preload it.

Hi John - What do you mean by make sure they preload it?

Also as to the previous note about the warranty, I checked with my dealer and I was told that the warranty would be okay since the Voyager is doing nothing to directly affect much of anything on the bike. So, let's just hope that is the case.
I would hate to lose my warranty since it is 5 years.

The person who ordered the kit and will be installing should know about 'preload'....that's one of the most important parts of the kit performing properly. Explains it all in the manual provided with the kit.

All I can go by is what I was told when applying for an extended warranty (no go). But, hey what do I know.

Happy riding

Barbara

Did you do some research on the Voyager on the net , I was thinking about one a few years ago, but did not like what some people said about riding it. I called the company and they told me they lean to the inside of a turn and I said thatt was not right, but she insisted they did, so take it from there. Wayne

Thanks everyone for the advice

I will definitely check with the fellow installilng about the preload setup.

Also, I spoke with the fellow doing the install when I first started thinking about it and he said that with the Voyager kit on it the bike will lean in the opposite direction of which I am used to when in a turn. So, when turning on a turn to the left, the bike will lean towards the right, etc.

Thanks again everyone. Nice to have advice!!!

Go really easy on the first turns it is very un natural when the bike leans backwards to what you are use to . Ground clearance is also a problem the bike will now only have about 3 or 4 inches . speed bumps are a problem . Rear tire where will be almost 1/2 what you would normally get and it will cost you 3 MPG .

There has been a lot of talk about using car tires on another forum I belong to.
Anyone have any experience on using a car tire with the voyager to try to get better mileage out of it?

Thanks!

Hi Don Welcome aboard the Voyger kit that I have has 13" wheels and tires on the kit itself but the mounting bracket will hang down a couple of inches

Hi All:

Well I got my Voyager Kit put on yesterday. I really like it. It is so nice when you pull up to a stop sign or stop light to not have to worry about what is on the road, and is my foot going to slip. My wife and I both feel much more secure with this on.

The fellow that installed it is Claude at Gladfeller's York County Trikes. He is located in Seven Valleys, PA. Anyone in the area that is thinking about a Voyager or Trike I would recommend him highly. He has also done some beautiful trikes. He does Trikes, Voyagers, Cargo Trailers, Camping Trailer and Motorcycle and Trike haulers. Really a great guy to work with.

Well, take care everyone, I have to get back to work, so I can go for another ride. Just love it.

Best to all

Don

Wonderful!!!! You and your wife have a terrific rest-of-the-summer on that trike :D

Welcome aboard Don! You are going to now have more fun than human beings our age (I've got you beat there) should be allowed to have. Just pretend you don't know that and enjoy it anyhow.

And remember that we gray-haired riders didn't get that way by being lucky or stupid.

Don, Welcome to the "Family"...Glad to have you with us. I don't really have any experiance with the Voyager, but as you're finding out, some members do, and can help you out. All I can tell you is get out there, take it easy until you get the feel of it, Grin and enjoy.......Ride safe. :D
