Stage One Upgrade SE Super Tuner?

Can anyone tell me why HD customer care and my local HD dealer is telling me that the SE street performance tuner will not work on my 2013 Tri-Glide? I am only going to do a stage one upgrade, air cleaner, power duals, V&H trike deluxe slip-ons. Since this will be the only performance upgrade I intend to do and "can not find anyone in the Houston area" with equipment to dyno my bike why do I need to spend the extra cost for the SE Super tuner? One HD dealer in my area told me that for what I am doing to my bike the flash download would be all that I need.

I suspect that your mods go beyond the scope of the flash tunes that are contained in the Street Performance Tuner. Those tunes are meant to meet EPA requirements. By changing the air cleaner, adding headers and high flow pipes, you would no longer meet EPA requirements. These "addons" are considered to be for "race applications" only and therefore you would need a Super Tuner which will have the canned flash download for your "racing" modifications. Should you decided to have your TG dynoed after your mods the tech can furter refine the mapping to improve the engines performance. If at some point you decide to add a CAM or increase the displacement of your motor, the SE Super Turner will have canned maps for your mods.

If you are savy and tecky enough then go with an aftermarket tuner, probably with Fuel Moto.

I can only suggest to you what has worked for me. Call Fuel Moto and tell them what you have and what you are doing for your stage one. They will send you a PC-V with a downloaded map for your set-up. Plug it in and enjoy. Have done this on my last two bikes and has worked great.

Since we're throwing out options, I highly recommend the TTS Mastertune. It's a bit more hands on than a canned map, but will be closer to exactly what your bike needs as well.

Actually the STREET TUNER will only install HD specific files from the factory. That's no good. You need to tune the bike. Why spend $300 for the STREET or $500 for the SE PRO TUNER when the TTS is cheaper and does way more.

Tuning a bike is harder than just loading up a file and pressing a button. The file must be set up for your bike. You must then calibrate the fuel to air mixture, that's called tuning. This process is called adjusting the VE tables which any dyno operator must do.

You too can do this with a little reading and save yourself big bucks.

When we bought the '09 and '11 new, we had stage 1 air boxes installed, and Rush mufflers on the '09 and Reinhardt's on the '11. Our dealer said we didn't need a tuner, a flash would work fine. At the 1000 mile check on the '09 they said they had an updated flash and did it freebie. 40,000 miles later on the '09 and 15,000 on the '11 they are both running fine. We ride year round out here. We regularly go from 1400 feet above sea level where our house is to sea level at the beach over a 5000 foot pass to get out of the valley. Go over 6000 feet riding to our house in Arizona. I do get the bikes serviced regularly (I don't do it) and run premium fuel. Harleys in the past have gone over 100K miles without a problem.

Ride it and enjoy it!
