myself and a few others have started a new riders group at our local elks lodge. Our first ride was a snow balls ride on jan 1st. we rode 26miles at about 34 degrees. Not as bad as it could have been. Im now looking for ideas for fun ride activities for the next 11 months. Food rides are good (to ride to a good restaurant and pig out) , other activities can add to the fun.

One group I was with did a bug spot ride in august. They sold peel and stick 3 inch targets to put anywhere you wanted on your bike. We then rode for about 40 miles and who ever had a bug splattered the closest to the bulls eye won 50/50 of the money collected from the targets. The other 50% went back to the club.

any ideas would help.

We did a scavenger hunt poker run with our ABATE of NWA. Works best if bikes go out in small groups or individually. The participants get a sheet of directions, mileage and things to look for. So folks could ride together, we had 10 different sets of things to look for along the same route. For example, one set of directions might say - From starting point, follow HWY 15 east. In 19 miles stop, face east. What do you see? (the rider would describe what was seen, say a tree growing out of a silo.) Another rider's directions would tell them to go 22 miles along the same route and note what is painted on the side of a barn. We usually have riders pick a card at the start, and they get one card for each thing they got right on the hunt. Here is the upshot - we didn't allow GPS to be used, just the bike odometers which almost all have an error to them. Some can be close, and some can be far off of the mileage. (To be fair the mileage to the finds was taken using a GPS) Our ride was almost 150 miles, and nobody got all the items, as some odometers were far off the point where the item was located. On our first one, a guy that had only 2 cards won the best hand overall with 2 aces, the 3 people that had all 5 cards had worse hands, but the best of those won the same as the high hand overall as a prize for getting all the finds. We have requests every year to do one of these, and we change it a little every time. There are all kinds of changes you could do the make it work with your group.

This is a great idea. I will suggest this to Saltywheels for the rally in Cedar City this Sept.
