I have been scouring the forum for ideas on what to see and what to drive by. Sooooo I am throwing this out there for your thoughts. Leaving Ohio in late June with definite overnights in Sidney Ne., Essex Mt., and Everett Wa., (free/mouched lodging). Sites planned are: Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Beartooth, Red Lodge, Glacier NP. Some pacific coastal highway, Salt Lake, Moab, and Mt. Evans in Colorado. Anyone have any thoughts on travel into Canada from Glacier over to Washington. Not camping, but also not staying in 5 stars. I have been out on several trips and my picts can be found at: http://www.randjholliday.com/
Thank you all in advance!!

If you come thru West Idaho, Hells Canyon would be an interesting stop for you,,, On the Idaho, Oregon border a coupla hours NW of Boise. This is the deepest canyon in North America,,,even deeper than the Grand Canyon.. It is a hidden gem that does not get much attention. There are a lot of great scenery rides thru north and central Idaho and Montana. Almost too many to choose from!! In June, we will be taking a 4 day trip from Boise up to Arlington, WA,, ( just north of Everett ) Thru the Bavarian town of Leavenworth. WA,, then Spokane & back to Boise ....We are 6 hours from Yellowstone to Boise via freeway, or a little longer if you come down thru Arco, ID and check out Craters of The Moon National Monument. Also a huge interesting Volcano and lava landscape.

Also...Lolo Pass...which is on Hwy 12 from Lolo MT to Lewiston ID is one of the sweetest rides here in the west...You follow the pristine Lochsa River and the Clearwater river the whole route, and it is amazing. Good luck planning your trip,,, if you need any info about Ideeeho...Lemmee know!...Be safe!...

When you guys get close to leaving,,e mail me and I will give you my phone number. Maybe we can hook up for a day or two...If that will work for you. If not,,,no problem either way.!!!

Beartooth was probably the most awe inspiring road that I have ever been on, but Lolo Pass was the most relaxing and effected all of my senses. I loved the smell of all of the pine trees, loved following the river and watching it get bigger and bigger. I am sure that you will have an awesome trip.

Hi, I live 2 hours from Yellowstone Park. That is a great trip by itself. Maybe go on in to Jackson WY, and check out the Grand Tetons. But I have been on the Bear Tooth pass numerous times and it absolutely fantastic. I love Red Lodge stayed there a bunch. Go into Cody WY. that is really a cool place to visit. I really like the Little Bighorn Battlefield visit a few years back. I really want to go again. It's only about 65-70 miles from Billings MT. This year we are going to Glacier National Park. We will leave the first part of August. That was a great ride. Alot of stuff to see out here in the west. Hope you have a great and safe ride!!! If you come by Blackfoot, ID. IM me and I will give you out my contact info maybe we could ride for a day? Have fun.ThumbUp

Hello, we took a trip last year to Yellowstone from Indiana. Bear tooth highway is by far the best. Yellowstone National Park took a lot longer than we planned and it was dark when we rode through the Tetons. We stayed at red lodge Inn (montana) nice biker hotel, very friendly people. Have a great time!!

Take a look at the North Cascades Highway (Hwy 20) from Okanogan/Omak WA to Sedro- Woolley/Burlington area. Awesome ride. Good road and great scenery.

Don't know your route into Colorado, but if convenient ride trail ridge over the divide from Grand Lake to Estes Park. It's a great ride. Way above timberline.

FIRST, IF Y0U CAN AVOID JULY 4 BY A WEEK EACH SIDE
DO IT. EVERY NATL PARK WILL BE PACKED THEN

If you have a schedule,
Make your reservations NOW.
Prices will still be somewhat cheaper.
Make sure that you can cancel the
reservation if you get delayed

For an idea what motels are like,
you need to check out www.tripadvisor.com
Normally I use the last 18 months of comments
to judge a motel.

Rocky Mt National Park is a good ride.
It can be COLD and Windy at the top
So take winter gear
If you go thru east to west, I would stay
at Granby. Way less expensive than the east side.

Late June in Yellowstone is very nice
Crowds are not as big.
However, it can snow anytime there.
West Yellowstone is more expensive than Cody Wy
But that is the time of year when they make their money.
I like Gardiner Mt to the north.

Glacier Natl Park is a LONG way north for us.
Make sure you stop on the west side at the Hungry Horse Dam.
Used to be there was 4 or 5 super 8 in Kalispell. The ones at the
north end that took longer to drive to were the cheapest.
twenty or thirty dollars cheaper.
But we havnt been there in 5 years and I don't do Super 8
much since Windham took them over, quality normally SUCKS.
There is a great big lodge on the east side of the park.
Cant remember the name.
Rooms are hi dollar and the food is a bit high.
But a really nice place.
Gift shop was fun to visit.

LOLO Pass has a lodge/restaurant towards the middle of it.
it is a good place for a break.
Try to follow the speed limit. The first time one of the crotch
rockets blows by, you will probably get a heart attack.
Just a hint, hitting a deer at 80+ is not a good thing.
Been there, saw the aftermath and got the tshirt.

Do a search here on the forum for the places you want to visit.
Yellowstone will bring up a bunch of posts.

Have a safe trip

Werewolf, you posted some great tips. My wife and I love that area especially Beartooth Pass, my wife bought a shirt in Red Lodge that said "Real Women Don't Need Guardrails" well this old man does!:clapping:
