Default What did you do to your Trike this week?

Last spring had to have a new caliper put on my Hannigan trike. Now I have a red caliper and a new one, So, I will get some caliper paint and match the red one. Also paint the hub black to make it look purty! I know some trikers think this is foolish to make your trike look pretty, but it makes it mine.

Last winter's project was to hook my trunk door to the side cover display when open. Ran out of time finding the plug, rewiring the switch, and fitting the wires. Had some great help from fellow trikers in trying to figure out where the plug was for the hookup. Never found it under the seat, so I was advised it may be hiding under the upper trunk, or in the recess areas around the seat. So, with winter being so long, snowy, cold, and me just getting back from my "adventure" (that's another story) since December 8th, we are going to "try" and tackle these projects before spring.

Hope your "projects" go well for you.

Gee Drpepper, looks like we are the only ones working on our trikes over the winter. I guess most trikes are stored in a cold place so they can't be worked on.
Mine is in the cellar at 60 F to 70 F during the winter. The only problem is no lift table, so everything is done by jacks. Oh well, we can't have everything.
    Good luck on your project!

New front braking system with SS lines, a set of progressive springs waiting to be installed in the front forks, and Flanders handlebars with heat and kuryakin grips and weights. Also picked up even more LED lighting. The trike is next door in the neighbor's garage, unheated. My garage is heated but it's turned into a workshop so the trike won't fit in, or it will fit but no room to work on it or anything else for that matter. There is already one project motorcycle in there already, a 1984 Venture Royale I'm restoring, and may make into a trike but this year the motor is being transformed into a VMax motor...

New S&S 111 touring motor to replace the (slightly warmed over but aged) Evo motor in my 1997 Electraglide DFT conversion. Seems the trike, two-up, towing a trailer was maybe a little too much for the "little" 80-incher. (Not sure yet what the k-k-klank, k-k-klank is, but it can't be good.) The new 111 pulls like a freight train. What trailer...?

I don't have time to work on my Trike, I don't store it I ride it every day, The only thing I worked on was pulling the solenoid for the reverse motor, then after taking it apart and that wasn't the problem pulling the whole motor out and Repairing it ''So'' I thought [only worked a few times] So when I get the time [energy] out it comes again
I'm getting good at parking in a spot where I just have to drive strait out...

All fluids to be changed, checking forks for need of freshening up, new front tire, service trike conversion, grease the front U-joint, air filter, spark plugs, check valves, wash and wax.
Leaving on a week's trip March 27th. Heading to points South from Indiana!

Boy, and I thought I was working on my trike. You guys make me look like a kid working on a "peddle trike".
Which style Flanders bars are you putting on, sweep back or ape hangers?
Boy, pulling a motor, I can not comprehend pulling my GL 1800 out, WOW! But apparently you are wise to the ins and outs with doing it!
Restore a bike can be a lot of fun and headache at the same time. Getting new parts would be a challenge. I would think the web would be a great help.
Hope you guys get all your projects done before spring!

I have to do a BMW 24k service, which is mainly valve adjustment. I also need to add power relays for my Trailmaster camper lights. BMW wiring circuits don't seem to like the extra lighting load. I also want to remove and reapply the plasti-coat on the leading surfaces of the fenders and floorboards to help prevent those pesky stone nicks. Besides that, I think I'm good...............

Well let's see, I started out by repairing ALL the wiring on my trike. Previous owner didn't like the lights so she had them all cut! They are all repaired now with fuses and relays on all circuits. Then we moved on to having a body shop tech create and install some flares for the trike made from pure fiberglass. Looks pretty good if I do say so myself. Next I had the timing belts replaced, the air filter/oil filter/fuel filter all replaced, new spark plugs installed and the carbs tuned. She's ready! Lastly, new tires on the rear mounted on new wheels. Had the trailer hooked up to check all lighting, all systems go!! Greased the trailer wheel bearings and now I'm just planning what to take with me on my first trip.

Trike, check; trailer, check; gas, check; Wife, check; ...k ok
... Made the journey (from 2 to 3 wheels) now enjoying the ride ...

Upgraded to a Weber 32/36 2 bbl carb, switched out the old dual advance dizzy for a Bosch 009 centrifugal advance unit, new points, condensor, cap, rotor, wires and coil. Gonna top it all off with a set of high ratio rockers. Also adding a set of digital gauges, and possibly a GPS speedo. Gonna have the rear suspension clocked up a notch to accomodate some taller tires and the added weight of a passenger. Throw in some new brake pads and touch up some paint, she should be good to go. Oh, yeah... She's due for an oil change!

03-15-2014: Let's add new fork seals to the list. Popped one on a ride last weekend...

Pulled the alternator and had new bearings and brushes installed. I didn't have any problems, but didn't want any on the road. Be safe and enjoy the ride. Larry

New Battery since it is 6 yrs old and don't want to go bad on a trip this year.
Also, adding Hyperlites brake and run lights
Oil Change this month and a good general check over.

Good idea on the old battery, you never know. My brother-in-law took his alternator out and had it rebuilt. It was dedious work, but he saved a lot of money. I was very proud of him, because he is not very handy with mechanical things.
Wiring can be a pain in the bu.., ask me. Working on the display last year, it was one of those, work on it till you need a break, then come back to it again with fresh ideas. I never did get it done, but will tackle it again, soon.
It is kind of funny to hear people changing points on the distributor, how old if the motor on the VW trike? Or do all VW's have a distributor, I really don't know very much about VWs?
Again, good luck on you projects.

Nothin' like rockin' it old school, Rosy!

My motor was built in '08 as a parts motor. I could convert to electronic ignition, but if a set of points fails me while I'm out on the road, they're readily available for about $10 as opposed to replacing an ignition module (or even the whole distributor depending on the set-up) for a lot more money.

Cleaned and adjusted rear brakes, new rear tires and rims. The new rims and tires are 20 lbs lighter each than the stock spokes. Building a new passenger seat for my wife. Trying to make it a bobber style seat mounted on 5 inch springs to give her a smooth ride. Also planning a new radio and speakers.

Boy, they have some nice looking bobber seats on E-bay. Is that the style/type you are planning on building? Post pictures when you get finished, like to see it.
    Good luck on your projects!
