It's been suggested that I post the route that our Maryland club, Chesapeake Trikers, will be taking to the rally just in case anyone from MD, PA, NJ, NY, etc. may want to join our group for the trip. I'd like to keep this thread just for this purpose.

We are planning a two-day up, two-day back ride for the round trip. The idea is to have an enjoyable ride with time for pictures, roadside stands, etc., along the way. We're taking a scenic route, including the Delaware Water Gap, and minimizing interstates. There should be only one toll, the bridge where we cross the Hudson River.

We are leaving Bowie MD the morning of Wednesday, Aug 13. We will be stopping in Timonium MD, Lancaster PA, and Easton PA on the way to Matamoras PA where we will stay overnight at a Best Western. On Thursday, August 14, we'll leave Matamoras PA traveling to Lake Katrine NY, then Pittsfield MA then on to Dover VT and the GGI. The shortest leg of the route is 44 miles and the longest is 82. Most legs are between 60-65 miles. I plan on taking the reverse route for the return, leaving the morning of Sunday, August 17. We haven't firmed that up yet.

We're still working on the specific locations and times for each planned stop. I hope to have that settled in the next few weeks.

If you're interested in going with us, PM me with your email address so I can add you to any ride notifications, status, etc. that I send out to our club members.

Thanks,

Ken Dorvee (Yogisan) :D

What is your route plan from Pittsfield to W Dover?

What is your route plan from Pittsfield to W Dover?

Based on a comment from Jonesy I took another look at the Pittsfield section of the route. Instead of Pittsfield MA we're going via New Lebanon NY. In that case we'll be going Rt 22 to 43 to 7 to 2 into North Adams then Rt 8 to 100 to 8 to 9 to 100 into Dover. After plotting it the route actually looks more fun. The mileage is the same and it's about 15 minutes less time.

This route might get revised again a time or two depending on any future inputs that I get. A large portion of the overall route was the one I used last year and it worked well.

On rte. 2 there is a wicked hairpin turn but you go on rte. 8/100 before hand so you should be fine. I'll do a pre ride of your route before hand to give you a idea on gas stops, and road conditions, its been awhile since I did rte. 43. We go up that ways on our sat. rides so its no problem.

If you get your timing right, you could end up with a real convoy. Picking up the PA people and NJ. Just the ride up to the Rally is going to be great.

FYI, better half and myself are on vacation this week and took Rt 84 from CT to Rt 81 in Scranton, PA and then south to Rt 66. Rt 84 near the Hudson and out to Rt 81 and Rt 81 were the pits. There is a lot of construction going on, lane closures and nasty conditions. I had heard Rt 81 south of Rt 66 is also bad near Roanoke,VA.

We are thinking about heading Rt 95 all the way to Rt 287 in Jersey on the way back.

Hopefully by the time of the rally it will improve but for anyone heading north from the south I would check on these roads.

We don't plan to use either 81 or 84 on the way up. We tentatively have part of 84 on the return route but that's not settled yet. 81 was a wreck last year too but only half the group used it, mostly because they were in an RV. Thanks for the info.

Hello Everyone, we plan on leaving Allentown, PA. the morning of August 14, 2014. At the moment looks like there will be 2 trikes in this group, I will not mention who belongs to the other trike, and we will take route 209N to route 84E, have a stop at Orange County Choppers in Newburg, NY., (maybe photo op, ask TrikerMary about OCC Photo OPs!!!), then take 87N then to route 7E to route 9E to the Gray Ghost Inn. Should arrive at the Gray Ghost around 3pm.

You can always pm me here on the forum or email me.

See y'all soon.

PS
Coach64 we are gonna miss that lunch stop at the 84 diner this year!!! :(

There are a dozen trikes coming up from MD area. Have you grouped up for the trip? Safety in numbers ... 5 weeks and counting.

Trike Talk Rally Schedule Aug 13 Rev 3.zip

The attached zip file is an exel file. It is the Route and Schedule we plan to follow on our way to and from the Rally. You'll notice there are two legs for the Stop/Start for Sunday's overnight stop. Which one we use will be finalized Saturday night. The difference is stopping at either Port Jarvis NY or Stroudsburg PA.

We've also elected to return from the Rally via the Taconic State Pkwy and I-84 to Port Jervis instead of the route we used to go from Port Jervis to the Rally. Variety is the spice of life.

We already have 9 trikes with a 10th hooking up for part of the ride. If anyone wishes to hook up with our group just let me know which planned route stop you'll be at. Contact me at famdor4@verizon. net. We are on a tight schedule so plan on being at the route stop by the scheduled arrival time so we have time for introductions before we depart.

I only have MapQuest, BaseCamp and my Zumo 550 to work with. None of them can predict traffic, weather, construction, etc., delays or conditions on any particular date. That's what makes riding an adventure. :D

You guys all set? Only 10 days away. :clapping:

With 9 days left, Kwputt and I will be leaving on August 14th from Route 100 in Fogelsville, PA around 7:30am and head North, not quite sure how we are gonna get to Stroudsburg yet, many options available, but I highly doubt we will take route 22 or 33, route 22 is always a nightmare. It should only be about a 250 mile day from Fogelsville to Dover, VT., so we have plenty of time to practice u-turns on narrow roads (Kwputt needs the practice, he loses proficiency quickly, maybe from old age?).Anyway, we should see everyone the afternoon of August 14th, is there any kind of gathering planned for supper that evening?

no, more or less get a group together and go some where. There are 4 places near by, being it not being snow season not all places open during the week till later in the day.

We do have plans but not telling you, you'll just forget or get dizzy. I'll let Sherry know so she can bring you.

Stopped at West Dover Joes, about a 1/2 mile south of GGI on Saturday, food and service was excellent, prices reasonable, waitress suggest reservations for dinners.

Weather looks great at least till Friday so far. Temp in mid 70s low 80s. 56 deg nights. Only rain showing on the Wed before. So far so good.....of course you can't trust them. We can only hope they are right this time...
