3,000 mile trip on 14 Triglide

Just returned from a 3,000 mile, 10 day trip from the Dallas area to South Dakota. I was loaded down for this solo ride and the 14 Triglide ran perfectly. My best mileage was 39 MPG in South Dakota and the worst was coming home in Texas with a very strong headwind at 23 mpg. I am running stock exhaust. Everything worked as it should....I am so much more comfortable with the Nav and I have learned a great deal about all of the features. It isn't perfect but it always got me where I had inputed my destination with no issues. I have a lift kit and ran 24 in the rear tires, 36 in the front tire and 20 in the shocks. I also used the AirHawk R seat pad and once I got the air adjusted it was very comfortable. It truly doesn't take much air for the Airhawk. Too much air and you tend to roll around on the seat. I had long stretches where I put the seat pad in the trunk and just enjoyed the stock seat.

I recently had 2" pullbacks installed and I really was comfortable. I had 2 - 500 mile days and was tired but not worn out. If you haven't had the opportunity to see South Dakota you should plan to see it. Sturgis and everything near it is gearing up for the big show in August. The weather was great with just a few days of hit and miss rain. Rushmore, Deadwood, Sturgis, Spearfish, Crazy Horse, Custer National Forest, etc.....It is really beautiful. There were some places in SD that didn't have 91-93 octane fuel...I took some octane booster with me and never had any pinging issues. Every place was very accepting of the biker community and never had any issues at any Motel. I stayed at Best Westerns and at the Hickok House Best Western in Deadwood for 4 nights (highly recommended) Deadwood is a good place to stay and see everything. Visited with lots of riders from all over the U.S. and Canada....Good food, good conversation, small casino's, and great scenery.

The Triglide never missed a beat.....Experienced Heat in Texas, Rain in Colorado, light jacket in SD and way too many new T-shirts!....ride safe

OUTSTANDING!! Another guy that uses his trike for what it was built for. Just can't say enough about the Harley Trikes and touring. We have met a ton of nice people all over the Western United States 'Bikers' on trikes don't seem as intimidating as the biker reputation says, besides a lot of us on trikes are OLD.

Also just did a 3K trip to Rolling Thunder and the BRP/Cherohala Skyway. Weather was perfect - roads were perfect - bike was perfect - GPS was a POS. Thank God I attached the Zumo to the gas lid - it turned out to be the main gps for the whole trip. I saved about 40 addresses to it in just under 30 minutes with not one problem. If I can get the H-D unit to do the same I'd be a happy camper.

It takes me almost 10m minutes to save just one address to the POS. I don't use way points so I don't have that problem.

I have tried many different ways to save all my trip address but none seam to work consistently.

One of the main problems I found is that the H-D unit doesn't list address by distance to your present location - it lists addresses alphabetically = STUPID - DUMB!!!! Oh well! what do you expect from H-D???

Maybe some people like it that way.

How do you save multiple address to the GPS? Do you have a step by step direction? I tried another unit at the dealer to see if it was me that can't save an address.

Still very hard - even salesman said the H-D GPS unit is "VERY HARD" to imput saved addresses. To bad that wasn't talked about before I bought mine. I might have waited to see if Harley came to their senses and put a real GPS unit in it.

I would really love to see a step by step direction that works every time. Anyone???

Well not sure about the HD high priced GPS, but with my $79.00 Garmin you just hold your finger on the touch screen till the pop up box asks for the location name to save, then you enter it and touch the screen again. :Shrug:

Thanks, I'll check it out. The dealer showed me where I was going wrong. I took one unnecessary step so now (so far) it seems to work, but I'll compare it to Beorn's list.
