Sort of lost my clutch over the weekend, well I think that's what is going on. I can start the motor, with derby cover

open clutch pack spins, place in gear normal clunk nothing shows as far as in gear on speedo (I have medalluon gauges with gear indicator) give throttle nothing. Hoping for it to be clutch problem. So if it is here's my thoughts: please give feedback

1 I am looking at Barnetts Clutch

Scorpion Clutch for 2007-2010 Big Twin. Good or Bad

2 Replacing the cams and everything in there with Zipper Red Shift 525 cams.

Good or Bad

3 Should I change the transmission sprocket as is being described to a 30 tooth and change the belt due to having a Motortrike conversion or should I change the compensator sprocket?

4 Is there anything I am forgetting?

thanks don

ps forgot to say I have a 2009 ultra that was converted last fall. I love the look and feel of riding the trike but I really lack the off the line torque, coming back from Americade this year I was dropping down to 4th while buddies were crusing in 5th sometimes 6th but they were on two wheels. Plus they had 103 and 110 motors, I know it's sort of like comparing apples to oranges. But I do know it has lost of lot of pulling torque since doing the conversion.

Again thanks for your input.

Just a suggestion. I would do things in steps. Not sure whats going on with your clutch but it sounds like a trans problem not clutch.

If you are not getting a gear indication then the trans is not being engaged. Just seems to me from what you wrote that the trans is staying in neutral even after you shift the lever.

Barnett Clutch is very good. Loved mine.

Dont know about those cams but make sure that you get cams that will produce lots of low end torque.

You may not need to change the sprocket after the cams. Thats whhy I suggest steps.

DID YOU ADJUST THE CLUTCH?

1 I am looking at Barnetts Clutch

Scorpion Clutch for 2007-2010 Big Twin. Good or Bad

BARNETT KEVLAR OR CARBON FIBER CLUTCHPACK WITH EXTRA PLATE AND DISK IS WHAT YOU NEED IF THE CLUTCH NEEDS WORK.

2 Replacing the cams and everything in there with Zipper Red Shift 525 cams.

Good or Bad

BIGGER ENGINE SUCH AS A 113" OR 117" IS MY SUGGESTION. BUT ITS NOT MY CHECKBOOK.

HARLEY 255 CAMS IN A 96" WITH A PROPER CALIBRATION WIL GIVE YOU THE UMPH OFF THE LINE. THEY HOWEVER RUN OUT OF POWER IN THE UPPER RPM RANGE. THESE CAMS ARE EPA CAMS AND DO HAVE LIMITS ESPECIALLY IN A 103" ENGINE. BUT WILL GIVE A 96" A GOOD KICK IN THE PANTS.

YOU WILL NEED TO ADD TO YOUR COSTS BEYOND THE CAMS

TORRINGTON STYLE CAM BEARINGS

ADJUSTABLE PUSHRODS

NEW QUALITY LIFTERS

GASKETS

3 Should I change the transmission sprocket as is being described to a 30 tooth and change the belt due to having a Motortrike conversion or should I change the compensator sprocket?

30 TOOTH FRONT PULLEY WITH A 70 TOOTH REAR SPROCKET AND NEW BELT.

THE ECM WILL NEED CALIBRATING FOR THE CHANGE TO CORRECT THE SPEEDO

4 Is there anything I am forgetting?

A TUNER THAT WILL CALIBRATE THE ECM AND WORK WITH ENGINE UPGRADES. TTS MASTERUNE IS MY RECOMMENDATION

thanks don

See answer above.

Yes I adjusted the clutch in the spring, I noticed it slipping a bit.

Speedo as well as all other gauges are medalluon and, it my understanding the I can calibrate the speedo by going into the setup mode.

i have a Vance and Hines fuel pack for the motor adjustments.

i forgot to add that this all went down hill after being in a 4th of July parade that was about 3 miles long, ver slow moving as well. When I removed the derby cover you could smell what smelled like something burnt, a lot like truck burning it's brakes. Also it does try to move but it's like the clutch is slipping so ba it won't gain anything. If I remember you need a bit of speed to make the gear indicator work.

the actual clutch that I am looking at is the scorpion low profile lock up clutch.

Again in I am waiting at this point for what could be wrong but making a plan.

My opinion ( and I know how it works ) the Barnett Extra plate clutch either in Carbon Fiber or Kevlar with a heavy duty spring is all you need. You can get the extra clutch plate kit on Ebay for around $150. Add $33.00 for the spring and your good to go for the clutch. The money saved over the Scorpion kit will buy more parts to get you some more torque with cams, cam bearings, pushrods, lifters and the gasket needed.

If you need a easy pull clutch, add the Clutch Wiz

i changed my tranny sprocket from 32 tooth to a 30 tooth and that in itself made a huge difference on low end torque. fortunately with the Champion kit there was enough play that i did not have to replace the rear drive belt. i then had a TTS tuner installed with a air cleaner style change and now it runs like i always hoped it would. in Pa. i used to drop gears like crazy and now all i have to do is give it more gas and it just keeps climbing the mountains. with two up on the trike i usually have to drop a gear now and then but still pulls real strong. i since then have installed a 480 clutch spring and a easy pull, no slippage at all. it has always been my opinion if you not have to get into the motor, don't. most of the time your problems are geared related and not motor related.

Rude awakening time! Your 96 cid 86hp engine with an added 400 to 600 pounds weight will not perform like a 103 or 110 cid 2 wheeler. You can change primary gears, you will get a little more poop off the line, then you will loose a comparable amount of poop off the top end. Cam change? More bottom end, less top end. There has been lots of posts from people that wanted to convert their 'old faithful' 88 or 96 inch 2 wheeler rather than drop a bunch of bucks for a new 103. IF you don't care about the power, no problem. IF having to downshift when no one else is..... problem.

Good Luck

Actually a 96" equipped trike with a 30 tooth transmission sprocket, good air cleaner, good exhaust and a good tune will pull better on the bottom end and see 100 mph if the rider wants to. They will also have do down shift less often.
