Trike rear fenders question ! Help :)

Ok just got my 2014 HD Trike and I worried about Stone chips on the rear fenders ? What have you done to stop or help not getting chips ? I like the leather Bra's. But my wife won't part with her's ha ha ha ha. And the clear ones I'm not sure if that would help. Any Idea's ???? Come on Ronnie pipe in with something LOL

I have the clear film installed by the dealer. They work great and you have to look closely to see them. Something to consider.

I went to my local canvas shop and had fender bras made much like what Motor Trike puts on theirs. $40 and they installed them.

I have an 11 T/G, And I just let the chips fall where they may..
When I'm done with my trike I'll let the new owner worry about it..

I've installed the 3M clear protector on all my bikes myself. Not hard - I buy the stuff in a big roll and cut my own pieces....way cheaper then buying the premade kits. You can get it in different thicknesses. Works great for me. I even put it on my front shocks.

I will NEVER install a black leather "bra" on anything - Vette or bike. I've seen waaaay too many problems with them and besides they look ugly - - in my opinion.

EVERYBODY HAS THERE OWN OPINION, I HAVE THE HARLEY LEATHER BRAS ON MINE, THEY PROTECT FROM ROCKS AND ALSO BOOT SCRAPS AS WELL, I TAKE THEM OFF WHEN I WASH BIKE THEN WAX FENDERS BEFORE RE INSTALL, NO PROBLEMS AT ALL BEEN ON FOR OVER 2 YEARS.

I bought the 2 part touch up paint kit for my color. There is no getting around wear and tear. I bought it to ride it!

I've got a fender chip now that I doubt any film would have prevented because of it's location.

My personal experience with any bra is such that I will never put one on another vehicle, especially my trike. Over time, the paint under the bra will be damaged, maybe to the point of coming off. Put on the clear film protector, or try the Armor-All sprayon stuff.

I've used a few options on my 2014 Triglide. Here are my thoughts:

1. Motorcycle Armor - Good product but the width on their pre-cut fender film is too narrow. Too much surface area left exposed.

2. 3M Defender Spray - Looks good but does a poor job protecting the fenders. I have a nice size chip where the rock or stone penetrated the coating. In my opinion it is not thick enough to do the job.

3. 3M Film - Maybe I got the wrong stuff but I found this material to be way too thick and difficult to use. I've installed the Motorcycle Armor on 2 other bikes without issue but this stuff had me pulling my hair out. If I lived close enough to GARYD maybe I could discover his magic process cause I know he likes the stuff.

4. Xpel Film - This is what i have now. I custom cut to a width of about 8.5". Installation was fairly easy. Thickness reminds me of my personal favorite Motorcycle Armor stuff. So far so good.

Jerry, maybe you got too thick a film. It does come in, I think, 3 or 4 thicknesses. I bought the thin style and made my own pieces. The magic process is use plenty of water/baby shampoo/alcohol mix and take your time - don't try to rush it.

I belonged to a couple Corvette clubs and there were a few members that had a bra - not for very long - every one of them had some paint damage of one degree or another. We tried telling them, but they had to learn the hard way. One guy had his for 4 years - wasn't too bad, but he had to remove it and clean and wax the paint and vacuum the bra constantly. Way too much wasted time for me.
If they were so great you'd see them on all the high end cars. I bet I may see one or two in a year - if that. Paint damage aside, they just don't look good......in my opinion.
I'm not going to spend $35K+ and then hide the beautiful paint job under gobs of leather.
A chip here or there is not that big a deal.
Last week I did see a Limited with a leather fairing bra. No comment.

But if you like them more power to you - you can't please everyone. I have the leather fender saddlebags and most people think they're ugly. So there you have it - do what pleases you - that's what life is all about.

We had the Harley leather bras on the '11 and had no problems with paint damage. Saved a lot of rock chips, boot scrapes, and general nicks. Put them on the '14 before it ever left the dealership!

Well made up my Mind on the fender covers. Going with the leather ones. I seen two with the clear plastic & I didn't care for it. My good friends Biker Ma Ma & slim have it on their 14 and it still looks good. And like it was siad earlier on this thread. Do what makes you happy. SO BE IT. Fender cover update ! Finally got a few mins to install the new covers. Slim came over to help out with the install. You always need two things when workin on your Harley. Good friends & Beer. Well I had both during the install which only took about 15 mins a side. Then a another Triker showed up on his Gold Wing conversion . So here's 3 trike's in on area by our resort home drinking beer and tell stories. Makes for a GREAT time with friends . P.S. Had a lot of lookers as we were out there working and shootin the breeze.. Enjoy your day
