I desired to spent an extra $ to put and extra gas tank on my 2007 K 1200 LT with Hannigan conversion, and I am very glad I done that because the summer of last year I took a trip to Yellowstone Park, I don't have to stop to fuel up all the time and I will keep up the ride with other bike. I am highly recommend if you have extras $ it worth it to have extra gas tank. I getting 32-35 mpg on the trike and other bike get between 48-50 mpg.

My old K1200 LT did not have an aux. tank, when I scraped it took the conversion kit to put it in the new bike, I told them to installed it.
I don't know how long it does transferring the gas because when the main tank show it empty while I riding it I just flip a aux tank to transfer.

I've been think about adding a aux. tank to my 05 K12LT. Did you add the tank when it was converted or after? How long does it take to transfer the fuel to the main tank? Thanks

Thanks for both of those...

Been wondering the "real-world" answer myself.

From what I have heard, it takes about 5-7 minutes to transfer 4 gallons while in motion. Unless there is an issue that needs attention.

Since the Trike consumes about 2 gallons of Fuel in an hour max (assuming 35 mpg avg and cruising at 70 mph), that would seem more than adequate and acceptable.

So I have a question? I had a 4wd that I had extra tanks on. I would run on those tanks until they were dry and when the power went mushy switch tanks. The last tank I used was the original main tank with gas gauge. Why couldn't extra tanks on trikes be set this way?

I believe the Hannigan auxiliary tank is only set up to feed fuel to the main tank.

On my '06KLT, I usually wait for the low fuel light to come on, hit the Aux. tank pump switch, time about 7 minutes on the clock and the auxiliary tank is usually empty.

yup exactly what i do, only i only have 2.5 gal and take 4 min... i used a subaru fuel pump for my transfer ... probably not a big deal but i try not to run the pump dry

I had Hannigan put the extra fuel tank on my 2009 K1200LT when I had it converted last winter. Very glad I did. Like the other posts, I wait until my 'low fuel' light comes on and flip the switch. After about 15 minutes, I turn off the pump. It's important to not let the pump run dry for very long. The easiest way to tell if you have all the gas transferred is to check your 'range' mileage as it increases. When it stops increasing, the spare tank is dry and you can shut off the pump.

Extra gas tank

Had mine put in when converting Glad I did. Saved my butt several times. Takes about 15 minutes to transfer fuel. :pepper:

Fuel transfer time varies. At highway speeds it can take 15 to 20 minutes, faster at idle but still pretty slow. I replaced the pump on my '09 LT with one from NAPA that had a higher delivery pressure.

Keep in mind that the aux fuel pump is fighting the pressure of the main pump at the fuel return to the main tank. It's not a straight fuel dump into the main tank.
