Have any RSV owners upgraded your clutch since your conversion? Mine seems to slip some when I take off. Maybe it's me still getting use to the extra weight of the trike.

over on venturerider.org theres someone who sells the kit to do it. easy to do, less than a hr. if I remember right.

You may only need a better spring kit. From what I've seen and heard from various Yamaha sites, the usual culprit for clutch slippage is the clutch springs. Barnett makes a great spring kit that I've seen recommended in every forum that I frequent. J & P Cycles carries it for about $161. Have seen it on amazon for as low as $135. Hope this helps you.

Before tossing money around like you owned a bank, the #1 reason a clutch slips is dirty fluid and a plugged expansion hole at the base of the reserve from crystals formed in the DOT. Bleed the clutch and make sure the hole is clear first before pulling out your wallet...

for those who have replaced the clutch, is this a good deal?

$268.44 (free shipping) for the following:

Barnett Clutch Spring Conversion Kit #511-90-10002 ($134.71)
Barnett Clutch Plate Kit #306-90-20082 ($121.44)
Yamaha Crankcase Cover Gasket #5PX-15451-00-00 ($12.29)

Barnett clutch systems may be good but expensive IMHO. I've use SkyDoc's system on both the 05 and 09 RSV's after converting to a trike. A much needed improvement over the stock system. Way cheaper and solves the problem with weak slipping discs on a heavier trike conversion. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/ph...ade-kit&cat=17

When you are in venture riders, click on classifieds then scroll down to members vendors. You will find skydoc17, click on his name and send him a pm.

if you didn't pay the $12 then you will not be able to do a few things on the Venture Riders site. If you did pay, then I would contact one of the site administrators and ask for assistance.

You are not listed as a paid member. If you did pay then you need to contact freebird to get this straightened out. It is well worth the $12.00 if you want the best info and advice on the RSV. Also a bunch of great people, just like here.

Hopefully you will get back on the site and contact SkyDoc17. I'm glad I bought his kit instead of the other! Also, as Steamer said, great bunch of folks on VR. I had never met a single person and the first time I did two of the guys changed my clutch out while 7 others supervised. Doesn't get better then that!!! LOL:clapping:

Since 1983 I have rode Yamaha Ventures, Venture Royale's and now RSMV. While touring weighed us at truck scale, just over 1450Lbs. I know, too heavy but with everything full and a tank bag.

Just having a Hannigan kits installed next week. Bike 860lbs, kit 320 lbs, us 320lbs Total about 1500lbs. Why would trike kit be harder on clutch than 2 wheel when weight is very close. In 8 bikes never touched clutch. Actually the only problem is on the newer models, rear air shock. Every one failed.

Well, actually Robby, do the math!!If you divide 320 lbs by 860 (percent increase in weight) you come up with an astounding 37.2% INCREASE!!! Unfortunately with the 2nd Gen's the clutch is a weak point to begin with, and you are putting almost 40% More load on it!! After triking my '09 with the Hannigan, by the end of the season mine was slipping considerably!

The following spring at Freebird's Maintenance Day we replaced the stock clutch half plate with the optional Yamaha full plate, I replaced all the friction discs and the steel discs as well as they were really blue'd, and installed the PCW heavy duty spring. That was in 2012 and I haven't had a single issue since!! However if I do have to replace again I am going with the complete Barnett setup.
