Venture Cruise Control

Something to check...the speedometer sensor. It needs to be within a very narrow (VERY) range of spacing. I believe .004 is considered to be the mid range for spacing. When I had my Venture triked, the dealer was off just a tiny amount and the speedo was only working up to about 10-15 mph. After that it was wildly inaccurate and bounced around like a WalMart bag in a windstorm! I did some research on Trike Talk and Venture Riders, got the recommended spacing info (could have gotten it from Hannigan of course). Gave it to the dealer who had it correctly set in about 5 minutes. Of course the cruise does not work if the sensor is spaced wrong.
Check that and see if it helps.

Since the conversion to Hannigan Trike, my cruise control hasn't worked.

I plan to try to find the cause today.

Any ideas where to start?

After my conversion my cruise works but every once in a while it will just cancel out. Also last week while at the W. NY Venture rally, my CB was not working so we pulled the seats and tourpak off. The wires to the CB were unplugged and zip tied under the passenger seat. We got it plugged in and checked the rest of the wiring and all is well now.

You would think that the dealer would have a checklist to make sure that everything is connected and working properly BEFORE releasing the trike to the customer.

Well folks, I am embarrassed to admit this, but to be fair, I must.....

We are on a ten dayish trip and while running down the interstate, I was frustrated that I was gonna do this entire trip without cruise control. Then it occurred to me that when I was trying cruise that last few times out........, I hadn't turned it on first!! I was simply hitting the 'set' button and grumbling that it wouldn't work!!

I haven't taken it on the highway in quite some time due to medical issues and I simply forgot how to use it.

Cruise has worked fine all day, except for the cruise cutting off on looong hills, which I have heard is normal.

So, I apologize for wasting everyone's time.

But, thanks anyway.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *gasp* HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Glad to hear it really was simple! Takes a heck of a guy to admit that. ThumbUp

We have all had issues with "operator error" I'm sure.....

Glad you figured it out!:clapping::clapping:

Craig,

Doesn't matter how the Issue came to be at this point. Just thankful you came to determine and implement the Solution ThumbUp

We all have our "Doh" moments.

Personally I wrestled with an intermittent Internet headache at my Home for over a week. Tried Everything and went to arduous and extreme lengths to identify the Issue and effect a Remedy. Trial & Error after Trial & Error and frustration beyond imagination. Even went as far as to replace the Wireless Router with a "Mack-Daddy" Best of the Best (to the tune of about $150).

Then, just as I was ready to give up and call in the ISP Service Techs, it finally dawned on me...

I had moved the Fiber Optic In-House Unit and Router to another room just before the "Issue" began. When I did, I plugged them both into a Surge-Protecting Power-Strip and plugged the Strip into the Outlet....

Well Sir, that half of the Outlet the Power-Strip was plugged to just happened to be fed and directed by the Main Room Light Switch (for possible Table/Floor Lamp). "Doh" :cxtv:

You are not alone Sir. It's All Good.

Yeppers, those switchable outlets are bad enough, but to SPLIT one and put half on a switch and the other hot full time can really be a dome scratcher. When I wired our place, I put those half switchable outlets in the bedroom and I wish I hadn't. They are used so seldom that I keep forgetting which end is hot and which is switchable. You would think a guy would have a 50 / 50 chance to get the hot one first off, but not me. :)

I just wanted to say that I think you are a really good sport about all this. I'm really glad your problem was a non-problem.

I bought a 2009 RSV w/Hannigan kit recently and the po told me that everything worked except the cruise control.
After reading the previous posts about speed sensor and wires etc it occured to me that some of the symptoms described were what I was experiencing.
I think the answer to my problem has been answered with the speed sensor because my speedo seems to be 'jumpy' while going down the road.
My question is 'where is the speed sensor and what are the parameters for correctly setting it ? oh, and is it something a non- mechanic can accomplish ? Non-mechanic means that my experience on bikes hasn't reached the novice level yet.

sensor should be near the driveshaft, most likely is off compared to speedo. will need something like a speed-o-healer to get it back to right again.

didn't think there is a adjustment to it. speedo and actual speed is off from factory and gets worse after trikeing. did speed-o-healer to mine and its right on now.

Both my 99 Vulcan 1500 Classic and 07 Yamaha Venture Speedos were off from the Factory. When I Triked my Venture with a Hannigan Kit, it fixes the error. Mine is now 'spot-on' per a GPS without a Speedo-O-Healer. - Thanks Hannigan!
