Ok guys I am looking for some advice. I am going to gut my cat but leave the mufflers stock. What is that going to do to my computer? Will I need to get it reprogramed or replaced? I am trying to get rid of some of the heat and maybe gain a little performance.

I bet you will be just fine doing nothing. I need the same thing to my neighbors 13 TRI without any negative side effects. The piper is cooler and the mufflers are slightly more rumble. The stock ecm flash adapted to the slight change.

As has been said, you should be fine. But I'm assuming you have a Stage 1 ECM flash. Really not sure if you don't. Might make it run very lean. But regardless, you can certainly take advantage going catless if you did have a fuel controller.:pepper:

I went with true duels [cat-less] and a stage ''1'' A lot less heat, And the engine really comes alive at 22+ hundred RPM's...No other fuel moderation's...

better yet remove the cat with a 1 x 16 inch paddle bit. drill it out, go slow it's easy to do. $10 at lowes hardware. you can get it all out, there are some that say you can't but i've always got them clean as could be with the drilling method.

I lucked up and found a complete exhaust system on Craigslist for $30. My ride will not have to be down long. I am going to gut this cat then put it on then I may gut the one on the trike for sale.

You might notice a small increase in the sound ... deeper

He's right. That's what happened with mine. Made it sound like a Harley is supposed to sound.

Don't look for a whole lot of help with the heat if that's all you're doing to it though. You'll need a better breather and a tune done to it. (I haven't read through this thread, so you may have already said you did all that.)

You will NEVER get everything out using a drill .... and risk pieces being sucked back to the valves and ruining them. The cat is made out of some tough stuff .... I know I did mine. Pay the $150 and get one from wildpigpies dot com and then get $50 back for sending yours back. It is a bitch of a job to dig everything out.

I used Nightrider FL-Vied10s to richen mine (2014) up after decatting and still using stock mufflers. Sounds louder, runs much cooler, and notice more power! 1st pic is about 1/2 of what was removed. 2nd shows it tigged back closed. 3rd pic included to show you cross section ...

not mine.

you can get it all out with the drilling method, i've done many times now and have a inspection camara to look inside with. like i said go slow and it will all come out clean.

I cut the cat I bought off craigslist open to gut it only to find it was already gutted. There was no extra welding on it so it had to be gutted without cutting open. I guess the drill works.

I did mine in 2011, used a die grinder on the welded end and replace the pipe back and welded it at the end like it should be. Why cut it in the middle??? I did it before I even started it. got 68k miles on it now with no problems!

That pic of the middle cut (which I stole from some web site!) is just there to show a cross section of how the cat is bonded into the oval section.:laugh::laugh:

I really like what JC1300 did with his head pipe. But I wonder if I couldn't talk my service manager out of a set of head pipes for my bike the next time somebody comes in and wants his bikes catalytic perverter removed? Last time I checked on the cost of a new head pipe with a converter it was almost $800 and that was 3 yrs ago. I forget which bike mag it was but congress has gotten a hair up their butt again about making any performance changes to motorcycles illegal. Remember when seat belts and helmets were just "recommended". You might want to consider keeping your original head pipes.

Catless headpipes.

A few years ago. I had a Harley that had horrible heat issues. I bought a set of head pipes that had the cat junk cut out of it. I think I paid a little over $200.00 for it. Needless to say I got injured and never put them on the bike. Yes I still have them. I think they'll fit 2010 through 2013. The have the o2 bungs on them. They will fit an 09, but you will have extend o2 wires to make them fit. Make me an offer.

I paid $50 for a de-catted header at a swap meet. Guy thought he was going to make most of his money selling the platinum. Not sure how that worked out for him but it worked really good for me. Figured it was worth $50 to have someone open it up, remove and then weld back up! Now when I sell/trade I just reinstall the OEM.
