New member Eleva, WI with bad luck Need advice!

Wow. Sorry for all your trouble. I would request a new trike. We pay too much for them to accept delivery of one that's been damaged even if it has been repaired.

Good luck. I hope you get this worked out to your satisfaction.

This is what I would do. I just couldn't bring myself to accept a repaired NEW trike. There is just way too much money involved on your side of the equation.

Looking at the situation in a sequential order:

Trike was purchased, delivered, and registered in January.

OWNER of the bike had the dealer store it for a couple months then decided to have dealer do some modifications prior to delivery from storage.

Dealer apparently screwed the pooch during the modification process.
(hate it when that happens but it does from time to time)

Dealer apparently accepted responsibility for mistakes and offered the owner a choice of corrective measures.

My question: Why the hue and cry to nail the dealer? This situation is no different than if the owner had ridden the Trike for a couple months and then taken it in for the modifications (except for mileage on the clock) and had the job botched.

1) He said he broke his leg in 3 places in January, not that he bought the trike then. (OP please correct me if I'm wrong.)

2) Delivered means that the owner takes physical possession. Until he leaves the dealership with it, or signs paperwork saying he takes delivery, he hasn't taken possession. (At least that's how it is in my state.)

3) Agree with you that dealer screwed the pooch.

4) I wouldn't call this a 'hue and cry to nail the dealer'. It's only a thought that they should offer him another vehicle instead of the one they damaged while still in their possession, and never in his. The only 'hue and cry' here is that the dealer do the right thing by offering him another trike if he wishes (again provided that he hasn't taken actual possession of it by either riding it away or signing delivery paperwork).

what was outcome of the trike?

It has been a while so what did you decide to do? Take it or leave it?

When I had some fenders replaced due to hail Harley replaced the parts they would not repaint anything. Took 4-5 weeks to get the painted pieces from the factory. No repainting allowed. I know there are people out there who can do the work but Harleys paintwork is a very nice process and that's what I would want on a new bike.

Curious about the outcome also, the OP hasn't been on the forums since 3/18, there should have been some resolution by now.

update

sorry I didn't update sooner. It took about a week and a half and a lot of phone calls. Contacted Harley and they decided it was the dealers problem. They wanted to repaint and I down right refused to accept a repaint. They finally agreed to order replacement parts but said it would be 12 to 14 weeks to get parts off the assembly line. Still unacceptable I said. Finally a call to the dealership general manager and some harsh words I had an answer. I demanded another trike or a full refund so I could take delivery of a trike from a different dealer. They couldn't give me a different trike since we had already titled and licensed the trike even though we never took delivery of it and they didn't want to refund me. Lucky for them they had a new trike being delivered the next morning and agreed to remove the parts from that one and install them on mine. I was ok with that. they waved the $75 delivery charge, gave me a $189 trike cover, and decent gift card to use on a future purchase. Trike was delivered the next day and looks amazing. I've installed just about every chrome accessory I could find, new exhaust, new bars, ect on this trike. We have 900 miles on it now and couldn't be happier with it. Thanks for all the advice!

Sorry to hear about your situation. Did they say what caused the situation? ie paint issue or the film and its application? This answers to these questions would help in the decision best for you.
When you get the situation resolved give us call we may be able to help you out.

the dealer admits they probably mixed the alcohol/water solution too strong. They told me they have installed dozens of the Harley kits and no problems. the guy who did the install and delivered the trike says they haven't had very good luck with the Harley kitand have had issues with the kit in the past. The dealer refuses to install any film after what happened with my trike.

Good to know

Thanks for getting back to us. Our product is different than the HD film. Seethroughbraz( R) was designed to be user friendly without using the mix as stated above. Having said that, if you would like to, we would be happy to work with you to get your trike protected! Just pm us so we can work out details.

Noticed the folks from SeeThroughBarz, jumped in on this and offered you some solutions. Take him up on it. Their products are great and VERY user friendly. I've been running with their protective package on my '13 for 2 years and have NO complaints. None. I installed it myself and was a breeze. They furnish you with a liquid installation solution, no mixing, that worked like a charm.

+1 on this. I currently have the HD fender bras on mine. I'm not entirely happy with them.

Are you talking about the HD fender bras for the trike or are you talking about the fender protection film from STB ?

If you're talking about the HD vinyl bras that HD sales, you'll notice in the pic of my bike that I had the brars on my fenders. I have the STB film under the bras to keep them from rubbing the paint. There's a couple places on the fender that the STB material does not cover where the vinyl bra rubs. I discussed this with the folks at STB and they sold me some stock material and I cut the additional protection pieces.

Now, if you're talking the STB fender material I'd get on the phone with them. I can guarantee they will try everything they can to make you post a happy reply.

Sorry. I wasn't clear. I have the vinyl fender bras. They keep shifting around. Would love to change over to STB but I'm a super clutz and a perfectionist. A very frustrating combination
Sorry for the hijack.

Sorry for the hijack.

TGCarol we have worked with all kinds of individuals in applying the SEETHROUGHBRAZ product. In general, each trike owner is a perfectionist. Each wants it a certain way. That is why it was designed to be removed and repositioned as needed until you get it right. I know you got a TAT as a winner of one of the contests. Is it on your Trike? That's the first step Try it.

So you know, we send individual replacement parts as needed to replace the ohoh,s.
If you have any additional questions ,send me a pm. We would be happy to work with you in protecting your trike from damage.

Glad it all worked out for you. Sounds all too familiar. I took a bike to a dealer that was recommended by Roadsmith as one of their top installers. The dealership did not have a paint booth,(the body is sold unpainted) so Roadsmith painted the body and were supposed to put on the 3M protective film on the fenders. The kit came in without the film applied, the dealership said no problem we have a local window tint installer who does this stuff for us. By the time the kit was put on it was cold weather so the dealership brought the trike to me in an enclosed trailer. The first thing I saw was the film, it was TERRIBLE! Looked like some kid put it on. I called the dealership and told them I was not happy and they needed to make it right. They took it back and when their installer tried to remove the film chunks of paint came off too.

Sooooo, they ended up trailering the trike up to Roadsmith who repainted the body and added the film. Now it looks right, but I'm pretty sure I won't be getting any Christmas cards from the dealership. BTW, hello from Iowa, enjoy your ride.
