For those of you who are inclined to tinker with the exhaust to "fine tune" the sound (make it quieter) here is an annotated photo so that you have an idea of what to expect on the inside. If anyone can convert the file to a jpg and re-upload it please feel free to do so.

The photo was provided by CSC. During my email exchange with CSC they indicated the packing material should be replaced every 2 - 3 years and they have high quality repacking material in stock for that purpose.

Happy Triking!

Ahhh yes, that sure looks familiar especially since ive had mine apart about 12 times. I wrapped a double tight layer of exhaust packing and finally settled on only 5 discs to get the noise level to where the wife can tolerate it. thanks for the posting may help others who want to experiment with theirs. safe riding.

will be testing a csc equipped vic cross country tour
about 45 miles from me this weekend. will find out
how loud the supertrapp components are . fellow has
put 30000 miles on it.

so, 2paps , how is the new ride doing ? no one has posted much to read about.

Too bad they [CSC] couldn't have designed it to use the original exhaust like the Champion trike kit. Irv, let me know how the Victory runs, that was my first choice but I wasn't sure I'd like the extra weight of the fairing and such when it came to a lot of turning in the twisties since you "drive" a trike. My Goldwing and now my Voyager turn very easy with the fixed to frame fairing set up. safe riding!

my bike doesnt have a fairing. just a super large
windshield and lowers that i designed an 7 jurok
made for me. it works about as good as a fairing.

rode the csc cct this afternoon. liked everything but the noise. this bike has 45000
well used miles on it. 30000 w/trike.looked like it runs rich. he rides it , not shines
it.everything underneath was pretty dingy. mufflers were rusty all over. im about
as anal as they come on my stuff. he enjoys it. fun to ride and still peppy.

Irv, Overall bike noise, winf noise, tranny noise or exhaust noise?

just the exhaust.of course mine is about as quiet
as a singer sewing machine. a stock victory is quieter than
my vtx 1300 c was. it wasnt obnoxious though. rest
of the ride was better than expected. joyce said she
felt like we were gonna tip over. i never felt that, but
the driver always sits lower.
my wind management system felt as good as his
with the fairing

any of you guys have a total length of your mufflers.on the vic they also neck the pipe
down in size into the muffler. looks to me
like something can be done by a shop, but havent measured my muffler yet. oops,
34" muffler. roadsmith has trailing arm
suspension .csc has a arms.thats how
roadsmith has room for stockers. still
think some tinkering could be done. other
than that i really liked the kit . he had the victory reverse installed back in '13.
only trouble was having the diff unit replaced by a recall so far and his clutch replaced
with a heavy duty unit. maybe barnett.
like i said . he rides it and is not into the
nuts and bolts aspect of it.

So the pipes are not obnoxious, does that mean you & Joyce can live with them or are they marginal and could become obnoxious? What does Joyce have to say about the pipes?

I haven't had anyone 2 up with me yet but I can't imagine anyone getting the feeling of tipping over. It's more like the bloody thing is on rails. After putting more thought into it, my passenger will have the advantage of a wrap around back rest mounted on a tour pack. I'm sure that'll make a difference.

she says she doesnt remember the exhaust. maybe not having anything to hang onto was the tippy problem.
i thought it felt great but i had handlebars. she had a
wraparound backrest on the tourpack though.wonder how
a goldwing sounds with the csc mufflers . you know how
those guys like quiet.

Try asking the question in the Honda section.

I had a goldwing 1800 but with a motortrike kit and liked it...it was very quiet and had power up the a.., I wanted something different after 10 years [it was a 2006] but not sure yet if I made the right choice yet. Wife ha sensitive ears and this bike is pushing the limits for her. I'll know more after wife rides it more this spring...May end up with a Limited Spyder.
safe riding!

already left a message on the on the honda side.
ive talked to a lot of spyder owners.never ridden one.
the only one i liked was the rt limited. cant afford one.
you can get a g/wing conversion with the wheels up front now. may be motortrike brand .

if i do this i know there will be a muffler change if at all possible. have a fiend who does custom bending.

Roger that, good luck with the continuing search. Don't forget the option of removing some disks from the CSC muffler.

talked to will at csc monday. he says they are working on a
quieter muffler. 1 company fell through but talking to another. i asked how the wing crowd feels about the noise.
he has had complaints and thats why the muffler
development. probly nothing till late summer, early fall.
their new suspension option should be out soon also.
soft ride or sport.

ERV and 2PAPS, Well, finally got wife out on a 3 hr road test since i bought this trike and she said that if she has to ride this trike she's not going to be riding with me. She basically hates it. Her ears hurt, her butt hurt, doesn't like the V-twin rumble and vibrations. I gotta agree with the engine and exhaust noise, mine hurt did as well to the point of giving me a headach. Paid dearly for 2 days with ear pain. It definately wouldn't be an all day riding bike like my wing was.We both have new helmets but to be honest helmets seem to magnify the exhaust noise. Ride without helmets and exhaust noise level drops...weird. Its a real bass howl type noise, upshifts or higher rev's are BAD!!. I'm down to 3 baffles now in the exhaust and performance isn't as good as it was with 5 in originally had all 12 baffles in, the noise sound just seems to change pitch's but not enough to not affect our ears, so its going up for sale after 1200 miles of my ownership. I cancelled my seat remake. I'm road testing some Spyders this week as I really wanted something different than the same old Goldwing. Love most things on this Voyager bike, hate the noise and hate the heat, deal breakers. Maybe I got spoiled by my Goldwing 1800 w/Motortrike kit with original exhaust. NOW......I know ear plugs may help but we didn't need them for my wing plus I don't like to wear them and they also hurt the wife's ears. She has very sensitive ears, runs in her family. I always set my bikes up with good wind & wind noise management and I feel you ought to be able to have a product where the manufacturer set up a decent exhaust. Not everybody wants a bike where "loud pipes saves lives" thats not why you usually buy a trike as a rule . You want comfort and quiet. Your feelings may vary. safe riding.

csc's parts and service dept ph # is 434-2638866.

call them and talk to will about the problem and possible
help coming. i told him that is the only thing stopping me
from getting going on a purchase. he has been very helpful in answering the many ?'s ive had. they are on eastern
time so 1 hr ahead of us. if they dont know youre
unhappy nothing will be done and i know there are some.
your bike is liquid cooled. why are you feeling so much heat? im sitting on top of a furnace.
my wife and i both get tired butt after 100 miles. stop once in a while. we do have an
Ultimate set which helps and a pro pad.

634, I've found that there's a fair amount of difference between helmets when it comes to noise. When I replace mine there will be an emphasis on noise reduction. I have a modular and there is a huge difference between cracking the shield just 1 notch and being shut. I'm not suggesting you change helmets.

Good luck with the Spyders, from what I've heard it can be a love it or hate it kind of thing, even going from one model to another.

I have about 2K miles on my trike now. All but the last 200 were w/o ear plugs even though I often thought, "Ya know, I really should try some plugs." Like you and your wife I don't like to wear them. My hearing is bad enough w/o having to conduct a conversation with plugs in my ears. Custom ear plugs would be an option for me to explore but I'll be getting hearing aids in the near future so I'm waiting to see what features the hearing aids have to offer. I did do a 5 hr interstate ride Sun. and stopped after 1.5 hrs. to put plugs in. What a difference! On the other hand, I had difficulty understanding conversation on my normally clear headset. I'll continue to go plugless locally and reserve the plugs for interstate trips until I get the hearing aids.

Even when shopping for 2 wheelers I agreed with you and shied away from bikes that were too loud. I'm very interested in Irv's news that CSC is working to find a quieter muffler. Hopefully they won't price them somewhere in left field.

Good luck in your search. Let us know how it goes.

IRV, I've had numerous conversations with them about the exhaust since I bought it. He is the one who suggested playing with the baffles. Never mentioned about a new muffler in the works. We'll see what comes first, me getting it sold or them getting a new muffler....I'll sell you mine 24,500 lots of bell's and whistles. safe riding
