This getaway started with a 2 hour delay getting going due to a severe thunderstorm at 9:00 am today. We got to our campground, set up and unloaded the trike just in time for more showers to start popping up late this afternoon so we conceded defeat and took the truck out for supper. Plan on heading out with the trike in the morning. More pictures to follow. Notice the two pictures of our lake taken only 15 minutes apart as the storm arrived.

That is a nice looking campground. Looks like it has plenty of room.

If you search for 'Country Campground' at Detroit Lakes you can view their website. They have 30 sites and some tenting sites. About half of the sites are pull through for larger rigs and they make it nice when I want to unload or load the trike. It's a very quiet peaceful setting and it's only about three of four miles south of DL.

The sun is shining and there is no wind this morning so I'm going to get some breakfast and get ready to head out. Destination today is Itaska State Park north of Park Rapids. Guessing the Amish furniture store in Park Rapids will be a destination for my wife on the way through.

Have a great weekend everyone and ride safe.

Rode to Itaska State Park to see the headwaters of the Mississippi yesterday. Took some back road highways and had a great time riding. We had to almost stop once for a wolf on the road and then later in the day a doe and her twins decided to wander out on the road also. We had lunch at the restraint in the Douglas Lodge on the shore of Lake Itaska. There were many signs of the damage a wind storm caused 10 days ago uprooting or snapping off large pine trees throughout the park. We're heading to a pioneer festival about 30 miles away this afternoon in Perham.

I hope everyone else's weekend is as enjoyable as our is so far.

First stop along the way.

We are at the Headwaters. It's about an 800' walk from the Headwaters building to the headwaters as it comes out of Lake Itaska. I haven't mastered getting all these pictures to appear in the sequence I took them so bear with me.

The first time my wife and I were here visiting the park and camping was 46 years ago this month on our honeymoon. The park is still as beautiful as it was then.

Thanks Dave! Bookmarked the CG. If I find myself heading to Detroit Lakes in the future I will certainly look to stay there.

Well it's been cloudy and temp in the low to mid 60's today with showers coming through every now and then so we decided to take the truck and go to a pioneer festival in a neighboring town. We saw old cars, a miniature steam engine being driven around the grounds and a number of old 30's to 50's tractors both on display and being used in the antique tractor pulling contest. Here's some pictures and by the way I can't explain the 'FORD' sign in front of a model R John Deere tractor.

Hey Dave, some great pictures of the old tractors and cars.:pepper: So while in the DL area do you stop at Zorba's? We did a ride over there in mid May and had a great pizza. Place was fairly busy but not packed like it can be. We might have to take a trip over there again before the cold gets here. DL is about a two to two and a half hour ride from Jamestown.
