NORTH East TT RALLY 2017 discussion

Not a hotel breakfast fan

I seldom eat hotel/ motel breakfast. I like cooked food.
Even when there is a buffet. I would prefer a room for $10 cheaper and go eat at a dinner or breakfast place.
so I don't judge a place by the breakfast. As we said. This area demands big money for rooms. I think Doug did a great job locating this place. Actually went and checked it out. He knows this area. Hard to plan a Rally when it is miles away. I am going to try and help as much as I can. Try to get back to our original format ( raffle , trophy , and planned rides and a dinner get together and send off breakfast ) if we get a large crowd we will divide the rides into smaller groups.

Real good place for a full breakfast is not far, country store on Rt 23 right in Windom. A group of riders from camp go there on weekends. I dont mind contenental as long as it is decent, some are just bad. Not sure how long I would want to take for breakfast, would rather ride.

Need input

Looks like this is our host motel.
We need to know what interest there is in it.
if you think you will go let Doug know
as always the more we have the better the bargaining is.
Also if we can't get a group together let us know now we can save a lot of time and effort. It is a shame to spend all the effort and then find out not enough people are going to attend and it will not be worth it and cancel it. Would like to hear from our down south members.
Planning starts now.

Just in case people are only looking at this thread, right now the hotel of choice is The Hotel Vienna (www.thehotelvienna.com) in Windham, NY. It has 30 rooms some with two beds so it is important that I lock the week we want down. I have seen the schedules for this hotel and the other one I looked at and they fill up very quickly.

This hotel is willing to keep the rooms blocked off for us until next July but before I even set this up, it would be nice to have a show of hands to how many people will go. If we need more than 30 rooms, I will ask them if they can offer suggestions for other hotels in the area. In Vt, the owner of the GGI secured additional rooms for the same price. It's better to know now so the hotel can explore this option if we need it.

I'm going to be back there this weekend and was planning on going back there to take some pictures and lock down the time frame. Right now we can get the two weeks before labor day or the week after I believe. If I can get some response before Friday it would be great.

The Mrs and I are in for the 6-9 Sept and a deluxe room. It should be a little more peaceful after Labor Day than the two end-of-summer weeks leading up to it. Also, we don't want to be traveling during the Labor Day weekend.

The missus and I would also be into it. Aug might be better, weather wise (excepting 5 yrs ago riding back as Hurricane Irene was barreling into NYC).

Weather will be a crap shoot for sure....it always seems that the weekend before Labor Day is decent and then Labor it turns but I think this year may be good. I can tell you that the weekend after Labor Day I usually do a work related class the weekend after and every year for several years in a row it has rained. I can take it anytime of the year but usually wait until the last minute.

I was told that the weekend before Labor Day is usually slow and the weekend after as well. One place was pushing for Labor Day weekend but too many things going on then, plus that's when the traffic is.

OK so I'll verify the dates again just to be sure, it sounds like most who responded are good for the cost and date choices. If anyone knows of someplace else to check out, we still have a little time. Even if I give the owner the go ahead if something comes up at the beginning of next year we can always cancel.

I am in also. And any date is GREAT for me .
soo looks like we got a rally
9 people 5 trikes so far
who else ? This is not a commitment. No money just a hand shake. But please if your know you can't say so. We will allow for 2 or3 to back out. That has happened every year
9 do I hear a 10 or 11 12

Sounds like an auction!!!!!!

I think Moe, Gunny and seabiz will be going so we are up to 12 now, so that leaves only 18 rooms left!!!!

As in the past rally the people coming up from the Penn and NJ area have set up meeting places along the route and had a good time riding up and home . Safety in numbers. All the regulars have not chimed in yet.

you can add me as a definite maybe..(plus 1)

I may have a camper by then so will search for local camping areas

prefer the week after labor day if you are going by majority.

I was searching for a camp site also as there are a few in the group that came to Torrington 3 years ago did camp. I am sure you will find something. When you do please post it so others can join you.
Doug camps in the area. I am sure he can post someplace too.

Doesn't look too bad, full hook up sites are $40.00 a night. They have 259 sites on a pond. Forgot to mention it's off Rt 32 just a few miles out of Windham.

Riding up from MD

I've already worked out a tentative travel plan...Day 1 (235 mi) - Cheltenham, MD, pass Baltimore, pass York Pa to East Stroudsburg PA for overnight. Day 2 (140 mi) - East Stroudsburg through Delaware Gap to Port Jervis, on to Kingston then west through the Catskills to arrive at Windham. Probably reverse the route for the return trip.

Is this closer and easier for you to get to?
Urge every one to get on board ASAP. Get listed on this sight. We are trying to get this as a sticky so you can post if you are attending.
Get on the list. If we hit 30 trikes and fill the motel your going to end up at an alternate motel. I think we are at 12 trikes so far. Like I said right now just handshakes. No sign on the dotted lone yet. I started collecting raffle prizes. Just a preview some are special.

Too early folks.

Not for people planning this it is not too early.
If you want a GOOD Rally it takes almost a year.
You can't just throw it together in 3 months. . The Torrington Rally was 8 months and almost a devorice.
I was on the computer 5 hours a night. And had meetings once a week planning dinners and speakers and motel reservation getting trophies and raffle prizes, doing test rides on weekends to see how long it would take A lot of what Doug is doing now. I had the advantage of being only 4 or 5 miles from the venue. Doug is 60 miles. It does help if we know what we are planning on having for attendees. As Doug also said the host motel is limited space. I am guessing we will fill it.
so far 12 trikes have showed interest. No one has put their name on the list. Please help us out.
