On a long distance ride the riders behind me noticed a puff of smoke and smell of rubber when I hit a bump. I have my preset at 25, because I am carrying 6 days of cloths for wife and I. I was thinking of adjusting the based of the spring to hopefully add a little height. Can't budge it. Bent spanner wrench. Tried lifting at frame to relieve pressure on spring and lifting under differential, no luck. I am open for suggestion. Trike has 42K miles, 2010GL 1800. Did replace rear tires with exact same tire.

Has the auxiliary shock spring been replaced with the heavy-duty version ? I know it should have the 1100 lb spring on the Honda monoshock provided with all Monarch II conversions kits after 2008.

On my Monarch II I found my Honda preload pump really didnt start working until it got to 9 on its setting. I wound up having to refill it and now at 1 it starts. Also where do you have your Lehman shock set at. Highest, lowest ,middle, which setting?

I don't know Jim. Is there an easy way to find out? Mine was triked by Lehman in Spearfish. Thanks

Remove the left rear wheel and use a vernier caliper to measure the spring wire thickness.

Standard spring is .330 thick 140/190 and the heavy duty replacement is .400 thick 270/345.

I did not know it could be refilled? Would info be in a repair manual.

Thanks Jim. I will measure it as soon as I get to my snowbird location in Daytona. Is it a process that requires a dealership or can a reasonably mechanical person replace it.

You supposedly cant refill it per Honda but its an issue with a lot of wings. Heres a link with the instructions on how to do it yourself. The only issue is on our trikes its in the right wheelwell in the upper frame at the top of the body. When I did mine I didnt take it all apart. I just drained it,bottomed the piston and then refilled it. The most important part is to be sure the pump is set at 0 before beginning or you have a whole new can of worms. Took me about 2 hours to do it,but then I was in no hurry.

It takes a couple hours and does require 2 people or one person with 3 arms.;)

Hi Jim, When I measured the spring I got .330 not .400, so guess I need a new spring. I am starting to think my shock pump may not be working correctly. I measured from the center of the wheel well to the ground without me on trike and between 0 and 25 the height did not change. Measured with me on trike and between 0 and 25 the height changed 14". Does this sound right? I need to pull covers on the side to see it it is even working.

All ideas accepted.

Thanks

Dan
