Texas Rides & Gatherings 2017

As for the Texas Rides and Gatherings, I can't think of any part of Texas that offers better riding than the Hill Country, but I do live about an hour from Kerrville so I am being inconsiderate of the members who live far away.

Since Texas is so large and we do have lots good riding days each year maybe we should have more than one Gathering each year. Meeting new members and riding different roads would make for a super fun 2017.

We are only Winter Texans, but we have ridden most roads in the Hill Country over the last 10 years. I doubt there are better roads than the 3 sisters, but even though we are only 15 minutes from the sisters, we don't ride them every day, because it's just too much. We have not been to a Texas gathering, because we are back home in Michigan at that time.

I don't know what roads your using, but I'm sure there are a lot of different roads you haven't taken that are assessable from Kerrville or Fredericksburg. I.E. Both sides of Highway 16, 87, 281 or 280, there are lots of good roads if you don't mind cattle guards. There are some nice scenic roads in the northern Hill Country but I don't know if they would be what the group wants, especially without a day on the sisters.

Best guide is the Butler motorcycle map along with The Hill Country Ride Map and the free county maps available at most tourist/ chamber of commerce.

We are available to pre ride, share ideas, or just ride, Feb 16- Mar 16, meeting up in Kerrville or Fredericksburg.

Easy there Pard..... Buck-ee's is an institution in Texas. We love our Beaver nuggets.

Bexar County Commissioner agrees with you.

Copied and pasted from San Antonio news:

Live Oak will be the home of the State’s latest IKEA store.
The Swedish seller of self assemble furniture and other housewares says it has found an ideal location at 35 and 1604 and will start work as soon as all the paperwork is approved.
IKEA’s Joseph Roth says they chose Live Oak because it’s a forward thinking, progressive community that’s not only close to San Antonio but also, experiencing it’s own tremendous growth.
County Commissioner Tommy Calvert tells us he expects IKEA will become a destination for shoppers all over south Texas and has the potential to be “bigger than Buc-ee’s.

Ahh...IKEA and Buc-ee's (heart)(Inlove)

Well Randall....there's your chance to move back home.
Would you do it if they gave you the right deal?

Ummm that's a tough one Carla. I Would possibly consider if the $$$$ was right... The kicker is that Kaden is currently situated in his education here. He's in a great school district, with people that have been working with him for the last 5 yrs that he knows. And truth is he's just not one for change. So it would be difficult to do until he is at least done with HS. I had entertained the thought of commuting but quickly came to realise that I'd rather shoot myself.

Randall,

Maybe you can think of a cool place for a 2017 Gathering and select a time that you will be able to attend.

I think it would be a blast to have you as a organizer with a guaranteed stop at Buc-ee's.

Lola

Hey Lola, well I tossed my hat into the ring in post#5. I'm sure you guy's and gal's know Retail is quite fun....so I'm not saying no to the ideal just saying it would be a stretch at best.

I currently ride east, past our old home in Taylor and have explored west in the opposite direction near Marble Falls/ Inks lake area. My Mom is buried in Liberty Hill so I ride in that direction when I can.

But nothing truly compared to the areas near SA.

Let me think/see what I can do...or come up with. :)

Randell...I guess you are referring to the Devil's Back Bone west of San Marcos and Wimberly...and around
Fischer's Store? Been a long time since I have been across that area.... my daddy used to tell of his daddy one time took the family across that road in a Model T with his rifle pointed out the window in case he saw a good shot on a deer. Dad said his mother was petrified. That was when that road was not much more than a goat track and certainly not paved. Daddy drove us across that road in the early 1960's and although it was paved it was very narrow and MY mother was petrified. We kids thought it neat-o. I have no idea what it looks like now.

Yep! Hadn't rode it in awhile so would need to find out how much growth has happened since then.

That was what i was wondering since there has been so much colonization between Austin and San Antonio, both, on I-35 on the east side, and Hwy 281 on the west side....wondering how much they've spoiled the country between them.
