I am looking for some help. I am trying to download the newer versions of software for my 2015 radio. I am attempting to 1.) go from the installed 1.19.2, to what the Boom! website says is the latest version of 1.20.1; as well as 2.) get the dealership updates. I found out I can't update the NAVI without $, so I have not attempted that one. I have downloaded the zip files for both updates (the radio took 1.5 hours!) and then dragged them to a 8GB thumb drive (which showed more than enough room), but when I put the ignition switch into accessories position, turn the radio on and plug in the thumb drive, the light on the thumb drive flashes, but the radio doesn't recognize the files, I guess. It shows "no playable media found" on the screen. Has anyone successfully done this upgrade?

I was able to download the update once, early on. Since then I've just stopped by the Dealer and it takes them about 5 minutes for the Radio / Boom box update. And just a note, you are allowed one FREE GPS update with your new bike.....jc

Trikesyke, you need to first unzip the file you downloaded and then put that folder on the thumb drive in order to update, that's all you have to do.

I wasn't aware of the free one time GPS update. I will have to look into it. Thanks JC.

Tell us more about this 1 time free GPS update please.

Yes you need to download the zip file > extract the files > put the extracted .txt and .iso file on the USB drive. USB drive must be FAT32 format (standard format ..... but some have NTFS and that won't work.)

I've updated my Boom software many, many times.

Thanks HDBOB. Good points.

software upgrade attempt : update

I took under advisement the responses I got here. I remember seeing in the owners manual needing to have the thumb drive formatted. I had done that prior to my attempts. I forgot to mention that point. However, I have successfully updated the software. What was pointed out to me was that I had to unzip the files. Once I unzipped and then dragged them to the thumb drive, everything worked as I had expected. The radio went through 10 category updates and informed me to unplug after it was done. Real easy. I appreciate the responses!

Well - I did the Boom box download the first time {un-zipped} and it worked fine....but realized I was usually at a HD shop somewhere, and have let them do it for the last 2-3 times. I bought the bike in Illinois and now live in Tennessee. I was at my now new Dealership and asked for the new Update. He told me it showed I had not taken advantage of the "One time GPS update". So it can't just be something the original dealer offered. I told him not yet on the GPS update. He comes back in a few minutes later laughing and states the Tech had just gone ahead and done the GPS. Before I can say a word he says he won't put it in the system as I had declined. So now I will end up with 2. Which is kinda Bull**** as the $125 TomTom I have in the car comes with lifetime Maps - Red light camera's and any other updates it will ever need. But for 40K ya get one.......lol

If the one time free gps update you are referring to is for the latest maps from naviextras I can positively answer that there is NO such thing as a one time free update. Naviextra will be happy to provide you with the latest map update for $149.00. The latest map update was done this past Sept. 2016 for the new 2017 maps. I believe they do a new map update every three years.

Interesting....I was at Appleton HD in Tennessee this past weekend and asked the Service manager about a 1 time free GPS update. He said yes regarding ONE free. So if you are close to this Dealer...I'd stop and have it done there. Ask for Chief.....jc

I tried updating the dealer location file. No luck. Another chapter member that's knowledgeable on it gave me his zip drive. No luck - it kept saying it was downloading - for 20 minutes. Removed drive - talked to dealer service - they said they were having problems downloading also. Said H-D is having problems.....DUH!!!

If you are trying to download the file from a Mac, it won't work. I had the same problem and ended up downloading the file from my husbands laptop. Worked fine then. Also, you need all the contents of the folder not just the iso file. It's only the dealer location update that does this. The software update was fine.

I hope this helps.
