Trike Talk Maggie Valley N.C. - Sept 4 -7 Register Here

The Maggie Valley TT event is FREE!

Is there a fee/charge for the event?

The Trike Talk gathering at Maggie Valley Labor Day week has no charge and is free. There will be an opportunity to put a few bucks in the pot for a cookout or two, but that's it! Our gathering provides an opportunity for trikers to enjoy trikers and enjoy trike rides, and it is not a money making event! Our chief honcho Bazooka and his wife Marge put a lot of uncompensated effort into our gathering and travel from Texas to be with us; and they do what they do because they love to be around trikes and trikers! The manager and staff at the Best Western go out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible, and that is most unusual for today!

Sara and I hope to see you, and bless you and your trike!

Camaro Trike

I want to add that its a great time. Bugman

Hey Mike! I can't wait to see your new Chevy Camaro trike in action! Maybe this year Sara and I will be playing catch up and not wait up on the rides we take! May your trike run great and be ultra dependable!

If you & Liz stayed home more and took fewer world tours, I am sure you could afford Keith's super beautiful BMW trike! LOL!

I have a friend with a ton (literally!) of VW oriented trike parts he prepurchased to build a trike, and I was quoted a price for everything but the kitchen sink that is hard to pass up. I've got to sell my trike first, so time will tell. You can't beat a VW trike for overall simplicity. We towed our Edwards VW trike all over the USA behind our RV, and treated it both as a car and as a trike/sports utility vehicle, and it didn't complain!

See ya, Chaplain Dave

Where is Maggie Valley?

Where is Maggie Valley?

Maggie Valley, NC is located about 35 miles due west of Asheville, NC, and about 1500 miles due east of Denver. It would be a fair trip for you, but I can assure you, the acceptance you will receive from those at our gathering and those taking our rides will help make your trip worthwhile. Every evening we all sit outside our motel rooms and are like one big family, there are no strangers, just new family members.

Maggie is located at the southern edge of the Smokies, so there is no straight line cruising and lots of turns on our rides. You might find the "Thunder in the Smokies" biker rally taking place from September 8th thru the 10th in Maggie interesting, and Dale Walksler of TV fame has his Wheels through Time museum not far away.

Our base of operations is the Best Western motel in Maggie Valley. Mention the Trike Talk triker gathering, and you will receive a special price.

Thanks for your interest!

Chaplain Dave

WOW ... 1500 miles is a hike. My big concern is that time of year is big for closing pools. Figure three days to get there, 4-5 days there and 3 days back. about 11 day trip. Not sure my customers would wait that long for me. I'm already limiting the to about 20-25, I'm semi retarded now. :D

Having said that, I'd love to go and put faces to the names. Lots of great loving people on this forum. Maybe I'll email my customers and "feel" them out.

Well....They do have an indoor Hot tub! Joanne and I just signed up.....believe they have 1 or two rooms left at a nice price. Nice job on that to who ever set it up. It will be an abbreviated stay - 6th thru 8th....sorry but best we could do.

FuzzyWuzHe - Haven't heard from you in awhile, I hope your customers can/will accept your taking a few days off. When I was in business I had to forego doing many things I wanted to do because I couldn't find the time, now I forego doing many things because I don't have the money! It seems like you just can't win!

When I was in business I came to the conclusion that if I was honest and gave reasonably priced good service, my customers would not go elsewhere. It is hard to find someone these days with such qualities!

Sara and I hope to see you guys, take some rides with you, and spend some time in the evenings "chewing the fat!"

There are rides scheduled for each day thru Thursday (a ride list is posted elsewhere), so you will be able to do some serious triking and discover the south side of the Smokies. If you should want to take off and do your own thing for the day, do it, but check around first, someone else might enjoy doing it also.

The gathering at Maggie Valley presents a laid back time to enjoy the twisty/turney roads of North Carolina, but more than that, it presents opportunities to get to know other trikers, and sometimes that can be as much fun as a trike ride! Every evening folks are outside their motel rooms just aching to exchange some words with you! Sara and I enjoy these impromptu "meetings," they are part of the memories we take home with us

I hope to see you and yours bro, your coming to our gathering certainly will involve a commitment of whatever you are and whatever you own. Although if you check the roster of who is coming, you will find many trikers who are making the same commitment! Fortunately I can fall out of bed and be in Maggie Valley, but Sara and I used to think nothing of traveling from Florida to trike events in NC and Missouri. (Think of my words about working & money as you read this, the bucks were there - the time was not!)

Your pool customers must be enjoying their pools! With the heat we are having, I wish we had one!

Hillbilly Campground

Anyone know a good camp site close to the Gathering?

There is a decent campground just west of (almost next door) to our gathering headquarters at the Best Western in Maggie Valley. It's the Hillbilly Campground and here is their Website - http://hillbillycampground.com/ There are several other campgrounds along the main drag in Maggie, but the Hillbilly seems to attract the most trikers!

I would make reservations wherever you decide to stay. Labor Day week is a busy week in Maggie!

Hope to see ya!

Ex-Navy?

Thanks a lot Dave

Ha, you were an Aviation Boatswains Mate (fuel handler) Chief, right? As a jarhead I was aboard ship for half my enlistment, and I always volunteered to work with the Navy (usually in communications) to get out of the ship's troop quarters. You guys had it made with nice bunks and wall lockers, and I preferred that to being piled 5 high with bunks and living out of a sea-bag! I liked the Navy so much I married the sister of one of my Navy buddies, but it turned out to be a Navy mistake!

As a fuel handler you may have been aboard an aircraft carrier. I went aboard the FDR once over in the Mediterranean, and the half decks, full decks, dead end passage ways and one way stairs confused the heck out of me!

A century ago I came home on an emergency leave from Camp Lejeune on an Admiral's airplane. I was told to sit way in the back and wait till the Admiral exited the airplane before I went down the exit stairway. I waited till the Admiral's car had left and exited the airplane, but apparently the Admiral forgot something and came back to the airplane as I was going down the stairway! The Admiral saw me, jumped out of his car and ran over to me yelling and screaming that he did not want any ()(*D&S^FDUSI jarheads aboard his airplane, and chewed out the flight crew! A Marine master sergeant happened to be there, and he felt so bad about the incident, that he personally took me to a railroad station so I could finish my journey to NY!

Take care bro,

Chaplain Dave

I know nothing about camping in NC but I will be departing Washington, NC on Sept. 3 for Maggie Valley. I saw that you are registered to be arriving on the 4th, but if you want to go on the 3rd we could hook up and ride to Maggie Valley together since we will only be 40 miles apart. I plan to arrive Sunday so I can spend Monday at the Wheels Through Time Museum.

Hi Lola, I hate to say it, but a Monday AM departure is it for us. We are just over 1 1/2 hours from Maggie Valley, so we can get an early start, sign in at the Best Western, trike it to Dale's museum, and save on a motel room. (The official departure time for the Best Western to Wheels Through Time ride is 1:00 PM, we plan to go to Dale's in the morning, break for lunch, and take the 1:00 PM ride.)

Tell you what, if you are taking I-81 you will go by I-26 and be less than 14 miles from us; if you'd like, stop in and spend the night. Sara and I would be glad to have you as our house guest, the cost for the night will be ZERO, and you can't beat that!

If you are interested send me a PM.

Stay cool.
