I was always under the impression that there was no way to fit a reverse gear to the vtx. I have a 1300r and am looking to put a trike kit on, can anyone advise if its possible to fit an electric reverse etc and what kits come with this.

Cheers from downunder.

mel

Nobody offers a reverse kit for a vtx.
You have two choices keep pushing are buy a used 1500 already triked or a 1800.
Also you can buy a new harley trike with a reverse kit if you want to spend the extra money.

On that page, on the lower right is a link "installation manuals." Clicking that takes you to a page which includes links to 1300 and 1800. I assumed they meant that reverse motor. After all, the link was on the reverse motor page........ But the manuals are for the trike kit itself. I didn't see that.
Hey Mel, the only fella that I know of with a reverse for drive shaft trikes is TRIKESHOP.CO.UK .. It requires that you build your trike a bit longer for the extra space required to install the reverse unit.. I have not personally dealt with them, but have spoken with them many times and they seem like genuinely nice people.. Good luck with your project.. The other options for reverse are any Harley Big Twin, some GL1500, all GL1800... and for a Sportster go with the The Trike Shop, Trikes and Trike conversion kits. Specializing in Motorcycle Trike conversions and ready-made trikes. conversion.. Good luck with whatever route you take!

thanks for the info guys....the problem is getting the goldwing trike imported here to Aus, it weighs too much.....

I have enailed the bloke in the UK about the reverse gear for the shaft etc.

I remember a very long time ago seeing a bike with a reverse run from the starter motor, the starter motor was swithed to run in reverse which moved the bike in reverse. Cant seem to find any info on this at all.

will keep looking.

Cheers

welcome aboard mel.

Ok getting there at last

can get a reverse add box for the vtx that will fit between the diff and the gear box giving me 5 forward and 5 reverse lol

QBE35G - Quaife Engineering

Also contacted DRT Bros Trikes and Cycles and they do a kit that includes reverse.

Soooooo next question is has anyone seen or had a DRT kit or has fitted a Champion kit to their vtx1300 R, I would like to find out if the reverse gearbox will fit etc.

Thanks guys,

Mel

We've done the Champion VTX I/S kit.. I do not think that the Quaife reverse will fit on that unit.. because of the size of the reverse and lack of length to the drive shaft to accomodate it..

The DRT is a very nice looking piece of kit.. beatiful i/s unit.. Never seen the reverse..
