I accidentally Started it in gear in the Garage next to the Jaguar in gear, it was scary , there was carnage but vehicles survived fairly unscathed . (Some Trike Damage but repairable on the spot ):cxtv::Trike1::Trike1:

If you only did it once write it off as a brain fart.

My Old man 'God rest his soul , Would always say;;;...Son, he always called me Son....

If you ever sat on a hot stove , You will never sit on a stove, Hot or cold before checking it out first....

I'm willing to bet you'll never do that again..[Starting in gear]

there are ways to stop a trike from starting in gear but why. to start in gear you need to pull the clutch in all the way , when it starts you have to let out on the clutch for it to go.

there is a light that shows you are in Neutral, then you can let the clutch out .

now if it started in gear with out the clutch pulled all the way in, then you have a problem and it need to be fix ASAP

Most all modern stuff has some type of neutral/safe start mechanism.

Automotive did not have that in the 60's.

I think vw did have it by the mid 70's

If I remember correctly it was another switch on the trans nose cone.

I suppose the easiest way to rig one would be a switch that the clutch lever/mechanism contacted when fully pushed down.

If you have a hydraulic clutch, you could use a brake light switch in a tee at the master cylinder to interrupt the starter relay circuit. It won't crank without the clutch pedal being pressed. Just thinkin'... ;)

PEACE and ride safe! :Dorag:

look at speedwaymotors.com brakelight switches hyd or mech take your pic. I'm using a hydraulic tee'd in clutch master line....wired from ign switch "on" terminal to brake light sw to pullin winding of 40 a. fan relay.....other side of relay pullin coil to ground........one main relay contact connected to battery plus.....other main contact to pullin winding on starter solenoid. if your brakelight switch can handle your starter solenoid pullin coil amperage, then you don't need the relay. maybe someone else will chime in and make this more understandable.

There are 5 ways to keep a vehicle from launching forward while in gear and trying to start. Some transmission have a neutral switch. For that to be, the tranny case has to have a place for a neutral switch to be installed. I'm gonna assume that's not an option here. Another way is to have a switch in the shift linkage, again, I'm gonna assume that's not likely. A third way is to have a switch activate once the clutch peddle is pressed all the way in. This will probably be one of your best bets. However, you will probably have to purchase a set of after-market peddles that offer this option. Forth is a switch that activates once the e-brake is pulled. Again, that is probably not a good option, plus it relies on always having a well adjusted e-brake. Last is putting in a hydraulic brake stop that also has a place for a switch that is trigger under hydraulic pressure. We used to use these on our mountain Bajas. Press the brake peddle to engage either the front or rear brakes, and pull the nob. It would hydraulically hold pressure in the line once a foot is removed from the brake peddle. Many would use this instead of an e-brake. This is also a likely option.

Google for one like this but with a switch.

Hello, I'm with rhino 2s "old man". I started my '71 VW trike in gear a couple of years ago. In the garage I always (except once) park in nuteral. Any place else, always in gear. When I did it I said "ok stupid, get your head out of your !!!, and pay attention." I only did it once.

Thanks for your time,
