Wife and I live in Texas and only been riding for a little over year.... winter months here are always cold and dreary especially after the holidays......thinking about dragging my Harley Trike to Orlando area and parking my trailer at Disney World while staying in their cheaper rooms and taking advantage of their fairly secure parking area (not going to parks this time)......Then, we could drive around coastline and where ever for a couple of days or so when temps are hopefully in the 70's.

....The theory is : "It's better than sitting around here!"

....Has anyone actually done this with their trikes or bikes in the winter?

..... do you have any advise?

TEXAS? Cold and dreary? Well, I won't question this statement but being from Ohio I'm quite sure I could give you a whole new viewpoint of cold and dreary. Anyway, as to your original question, I can't answer you as I have never done it but I can tell you without any doubt I would if I could. It sounds wonderful. Go for it! Then you'll know for sure ...

I don't know about 70's but it is nice most of the time in January. Thats why they are all there the weather is nice most of the time.

Florida is beautiful in the Wintertime :D That being said, it can get relatively chilly. Nothing compared to you guys further north of course. When it does get cold though, it is usually for a couple of days and then back to 60's. The coastline is usually a couple degrees warmer than inland.

Winter is high season for us. I would reserve your spot sooner rather than later.

Good luck with your plans.

Thanks dudes for your replies!

.....and a special thanks to TG Carol as it appears to be her resident state and who better to ask about winter in Florida.........(would have done this last winter but just bought the trike that summer and the money bag was just too empty to make a Florida trip in winter possible)

......So, TG Carol _ I didnt think about the coastline being 2 degrees warmer......WHICH coastline is normally warmer? .....I understand that east coastline is windier and has more waves than the west gulf coast side.......so, is it warmer wind blowing from ocean causing the slight warmth or is the west coastline a little warmer which has less waves?:xzqxz:

Hi Randy.

Hmm. It definitely is windier on the east coast but I don't think the temperature varies all that much from the west coast. I used to live in Sarasota on the west coast and average January high temperature there is about 70 degrees. In Daytona it's 68 degrees. Obviously the temperature gets warmer the farther south you go.

I hope this helps.

edit....I should mention that these are average HIGH temps. At night it's a bit chillier average in the low 50s. Cold fronts can also plunge the temps.

Thanks Carol!

....yes all info helps re. this trike snowbird mission we are considering............We have been to Disney World -Universal parks many times through the years and have no interest in those places........However, we just plan to ride the trike a couple or three days and explore the coast and other places (no idea where).....My question is: "Any particular place" of interest that would that you may know of?

........or is one beach town about the same as the other....."so'ze ye' find whuts ye' find".

Well I can vouch for the Sarasota area for sure. Probably the most beautiful beaches in Florida and, being on the west coast, beautiful sunsets as well. St Armand’s Circle has tons of shops and restaurants. If you’re more into nature, Myakka State Park is “The Real Florida”.

Also, if you have not been to St. Augustine that’s definitely worth a look. Some nice riding up there too. Lot’s of history and interesting shops and restaurants.

May I suggest that if you have time ride down to Key West. There still is a lot of hurricane damage but the ride is still awesome. Key West was not as severely damaged as further northeast up the keys.

What is the time frame you plan on coming to central Florida? I live on the east coast in Titusville and there are a few snowbirds over this way and we do get together several times while they are here to ride the areas and eat along the way. If you're interested, send me a PM and I'll give you my home phone number.
