Hey there MV Trikers! So, I was thinking that along with the regular ride of the Dragon, maybe there would be a couple of you who would be interested in going to Gatlinburg to do a couple fun things. There is a haunted mansion, a sky needle, and a couple other things that looked interesting. The ride there is anywhere from 1 1/2 - 2 hrs, then spend time there, have lunch, have fun, ride back and get supper someplace. I hope that some of you will be interested in this kind of day trip! Prices for the attractions run from $10 - $20 per person, but I am sure fun will be had by all!! Ideas and comments are welcome!!

Hi folks! Over the years Sara and I have been instrumental in conducting trike events in Florida and Tennessee, and we view a successful trike event as a series of happenings that culminate in one great event.

Here are 6 examples of what I am talking about when I say, “event happenings.”

  1. Have a 50/50 drawing at our gathering. 50% would go to some lucky person, the other 50% would go to paying whatever expenses, with the balance going to St. Jude’s cancer fund.
  2. Have one of our rides be a “poker run.” 50% would go to some lucky person, the other 50% would go for our expenses, with the balance going to St. Jude.
  3. A close triker friend Tim Nine has been very active in putting on trike events and trike games for close to 20 years now, I asked Tim if he would do some trike games for us, and he said he would be glad to help us out. The planned events are short distance low speed event’s, and quite safe.
  4. Have a Thursday evening “final event” dinner. There is a restaurant over towards Cherokee that Sara and I always go too when we are in Maggie. https://www.grannyskitchencherokee.com/
  5. If we can obtain gifts (as in the past) from Dale’s Wheel thru Time museum, we would award them at our Thursday evening dinner via a raffle. Also, if we have trike games, 1[SUP]st[/SUP] & 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] place trophies for each event would also be awarded. (Tim makes great trophies with his CAD/CAM plasma cutter.)
  6. Our raffles should eliminate any upfront Gathering fee, more than cover our initial costs, and provide something to give to St. Jude.

As usual, Chaplain Dave will do the Blessing of trikes and trikers!

Would everyone planning on being at our Maggie Gathering please look at the previous 6 happenings and post their yes or a no vote for each event. Should you prefer to not have any events, simply say “No to all events,” or if you are for having all events, simply say ”Yes to all events.”

Be honest and post what your gut tells you to post. Sara and I will be at our Maggie gathering and do the Blessing of the trikes and trikers no matter what goes down.

We will need assistance to pull off our event happenings! If you can help out, please email me at dasurewood@gmail.com If you have anything you would like to say but rather not post it, feel free to email me.

Be happy, healthy & blessed!

We're up for a spirited ride on the Rattler with 2Paps leading, 10 over, lol, many of you know what we're talking about. And a stop at that restaurant we went to last year, it was great.

Thanks Gary, that was a fun ride and we can do it again if there is interest. :clapping: Last year I made the mistake of not ensuring the back seat riders were up for a "spirited" ride. This year I will make sure pillion riders are heard at the pre-ride meeting and adjust the ride accordingly. I am not adverse to doing 2 rides. One spirited and one not so much so.

It would be nice not to get rained on this year. Also, I'll endeavor not to miss the turn onto the bridge about 2/3s of the way across Rabbit Skin Rd. at Ferguson Cove.

Last year on the way north, we stayed in Gatlinburg two nights. We went to Pigeon Forge and spend the day at Dollywood. I was really impressed and to my surprise have a really nice time there. It's only a few miles past Gatlinburg and motorcycle parking is right at the main walk in entrance so you don't need to walk or take a shuttle.

Just throwing this out in case anyone was interested in this. OH, the first 2 weeks of Sept they have thousands of Classic Cars everywhere you look.....

We've had cars at the B/W that go to the car event over in Gatlinburg & Sevierville, but there wasn't any rooms or the rooms had a high price tag, so they came to Maggie. When there are lots of cars in the area, the single main road is one big traffic jam. Dollywood is a class act, it is clean and well run. We try to go 2 or 3 times during the year and always enjoy going, except when it is really hot and it is a holiday weekend.

Poker rides are ok, 50/50s are ok, but since this is our only vaca, I want to go some places I have never been, so maybe the things like that can somehow be combined together. I want to make the most of time there. I don't plan to do the Rattler ride, but that will just be my pool day! So glad ya'll are chimin' in on this and I know we will all have a good time!!

It appears your thinking is right on.

My past experience with trike events is oriented to local weekend activities wherein trikers attend to be with other trikers and participate in organized activities, whereas our Gatherers appear to be more vacation oriented, and prefer to do their choice of "whatever" rides or activities during the day, and participate in "front porch" meetings in the evening. That said, I look forward to our Maggie Gathering, and look forward to being with other trikers during the day, and participating in our "front porch" activities in the evening.

My big Maggie Gathering interest is the blessing of our trikes and trikers and securing God's blessings and His safety for our triking, so be sure to hunt me down to have your trike and yourself blessed!

Have a great summer!

Maggie has a BIG bike event!

Liking how folks are making suggestions for rides and other activities...:clapping::clapping::D:D:clapping:

Before you leave Maggie on Friday, check out the bike event across the street. https://handlebarcorral.com/fallrally/

Sara and I have been to the Thunder in the Smokies event a couple of times and have always enjoyed ourselves. There is sure to be lots of vendors there with great buys, one year I purchased a really nice multi-vented leather jacket for the dirt cheap price of $49.

Dale Walksler of Wheels through Time sent me an email and said that he and his crew overhauled the museum this past winter. If you have been there before, expect a new display of the bikes and the world that used to be.

If you or your wife are shopper's, Waynesville has many stores you can shop at that offer a laid back country type atmosphere.

Take care - have a GREAT summer.

Maggie Thunder event

Darn Dave, they don't open until 1100. Are the vendors available before then? At 1100 I'm usually 3 hrs down the highway.

The Thunder events are well organized and they have security persons on hand. I don't doubt that most of the vendors will be there Thursday evening to set up, your problem is not the vendors, but the security people. The best way to control the opening hour for the event is to control the sale of tickets, and I am sure that is where you will run into your problem.

Say, just for the fun of it, why not see if you can access the grounds Thursday evening before things get organized!

I think I still have my free passes for the Thunder in the Smokies.

Gatherings & Air Shows!

Liking how folks are making suggestions for rides and other activities...:clapping::clapping::D:D:clapping:

Here is something to look at while you wile away the time between now and Labor day; I wish there was an airshow like the following going on in the Maggie area!

The following airshow took place in a boondocks location, but having been to the EAA's Oshkosh and Lakeland,FL Sun n' Fun events several times, and been to scores of local airshows, I can honestly say this airshow tops anything I've ever seen! https://vimeo.com/100670266

I would not think twice about making a run to TT Gathering, or making a run to a great airshow. I have a pilots license and have owned several aircraft, and have never seen flying like this! ENJOY!

I didn't hear about that! Since we started that ride 3 years ago, we kinda feel responsible for it. Maybe we can draw you a map this time:D. Actually, we were glad not to lead that one. Covering for Randy and Marge kept us busy enough. A slower second run might be a good idea. The Rattler is a good ride for those not used to corners.

We plan on coming and can plan rides but are not excited about touristy stuff, just ridin and front porch meetings.

There's a couple of places we've wanted to see in the area around Bryson City, it's around 30 miles from MV

The road to nowhere:

https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/the-road-to-nowhere

Clingsman Dome:

https://www.greatsmokies.com/gsmnp/clingmans-dome.html

Have been to both. Nice rides but many rides are better and closer, Road to nowhere was pretty but nothing exciting. The dome was nice but very crowded. Would show someone else but won't do it again by ourselves.
