I am looking forward to meeting and sharing information with owners of BMW trikes. I am not new to BMW motorcycles but am new to trikes. Give me a shout, please.

BTW. I am in the Austin, TX area next door to the famous Texas Hill Country.

I will be needing to replace the front tire on my BMW K LT/Hannigan soon and am looking for recommendations. The hot setup on GL1800 based trikes appears to be a rear Michelin Pilot Activ mounted in the reverse direction. Michelin doesn't appear to offer a rear to fit the front of a K LT with an adequate load rating. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hello!

I, too, just joined the ranks of triking. I had my 02 K 1200 LT converted to a Hannigan in September. I love it's handling and ride quality. I know that i will soon be looking to replace the front tire, too. I have been studying the tire listings in a lot of magazines, and have found 130/90/17 or 140/70/17. Don't know which size will work better, hoping to find some help here. I think I could get by with a little taller tire than the stock 120 tire.

That trike is a beauty, Ken! Welcome to TrikeTalk :)

I use a rear motorcycle tire mounted in reverse direction on my 1150RT. Works great and double the mileage.

Hi and welcome,

I'm running the Pilot Activ 130/70-17 on the front of my K1200LT Hannigan conversion. Fits fine and last a long time. Don't know how long. Haven't worn it out yet. 15,000 miles and counting. Try it, you'll like it.

Same here, I use the Metzeler 880 on my 2009 BMW LT/Hannigan and have been very happy with them so far. Put about 23K miles on first tire before picking up some shrapnel in the side wall. Replacement has about 8K so far and shows minimal signs of wear. Have never had a problem with cupping. I run 40 lbs in the Metzeler and 28-30 lbs in the Michelins on the Hannigan rear end.

Welcome to TT. Many of us have ideas to share if you like to put farkles on your bike. Seems like I find some new gadget a couple of times a year.

Keep posting about your trike experiences.

I have had my 2002 K1200LT Hannigan conversion for 2 1/2 years.
Best move I ever made regarding this BMW. Here are some photos of my ride:

Just changed my tire again (Metzler ME880) but this time due to really pushing the limits of my trike on very twisty roads, I only got 11,000 miles out of this front tire.

I know, old thread.....but, anyone had their Hannigan conversion done by Trike Traders in Lake Alfred, Florida? I have an '06 I want to get done there.
