Utopia New Jersey USA..
When i took my M8 2017 Tri Glide for the 5k oil change, I made mention to the service writer that the trans fluid was low , So as to Harleys service bulletin, They filled each of them with 28 oz..Then i was told to come back in a thousand miles As per Harley instructions , So i brought it in this morning, What they found today was ;

20 Oz In the trans...And 36 Oz in the primary....Now i have to wait for a repair kit to be sent to the dealer....He has at least 3 Trike's that need the kit..And he suspects there will be even more Trikes coming in with that oil problem now that the weather is warm and people are putting miles on them And he doesn't even know when the'll come in or even what they look like.......Right if anyone comes in with that problem Harley wants the dealers to drain the trans/primary then fill it 28/28 oz, Then have the costumer drive it for 1k then if they find a problem they will send a kit....

Me thinks they Harley doesn't have a fix and there just staling for time to find one...:cxtv:

Methinks you are correct that Harley doesn't have a clue as to the cause nor the cure. It is not a 'trike' thing at all but an 'M8' thing. It has been discussed (and cussed) ad infinitum on several enthusiast forums. Sorry you are having the problem and hope the kit does eliminate the problem. So far with 5,200 miles on my 2018 everything is A-OK. Sure hope it stays that way but my history with my Harleys is that if there is a known problem I'll eventually have it. Must be contagious, lol.

Reading this thread made me curious so i went out to the garage and checked the trans level in my trike once i figured out the right way to check it( dip stick screwed in resting on o-ring) it was dead on full. Its due for a trans change anyway, got 5000 on this change 10,000 on bike,so knock on wood,I wont have an issue with this.

bad seal that is causing the leak to the primary? That issue been going on for years. There is a kit for this now?

If the MOCO has a kit to fix the problem it doesn't sound like there trying to figure it out.

Is this the dealer that lies to you or the one 70 miles away? With the price of gas it's costing you $12-13 for him to check your transmission fluid level.:gah:

Harley does not have a fix yet to my understanding

Lets say they do figure it out, This could probably destroy their confidence let alone fix ALL the bikes out there now

on their dime JMO

The dealers that play dumb are 10 and 15 miles away....The dealer i trust is 80 miles away, And they been in the same exact location since 1956 and still family run..

And the ride there is a chinch..Got there at 9am was at my hunting club 25 miles away before 11:30 am....And on the way home i ride along the Delaware river through Hawks Nest....To home....One of the most scenic spots in the Tri-State area.[PA/NY/NJ]. And 12/13 dollars for gas isn't going to make or brake me...If it did then shame on me for buying a 35 thousand dollar toy..

I remember riding through Pennsylvania heading from St. Louis to Submarine school in Groton, CT & it was some beautiful riding. That was on a 1976 Yamaha SX500 that would run all day at 70-75 on the highway and not even work doing it.

I made the trip back, (1250 miles) in 24 hours & that included a 3 hour nap & shower.:Dorag:

It seems like the second Email from Harley to me, And my answer to it struck a cord,

I got a call last Tuesday to bring it in the fit it kit is here no appointment necessary, Fix it while you wait...I'm going to see if i can get to the dealer Wednesday ,Thursday ..

Will it work?...We shall see what we will see....

I would like to see the statistics on this problem. Is it more 103's than 107's?

In the M8 family, is it more TG's than Freewheeler's or is there no rhyme or reason & it's just a % of everything the last few years.

I check mine every 250 miles or so & so far, I'm 1 of the lucky ones.

My uneducated guess is , No rhyme or reason...And thats why Harley is having a tough time getting a handle on it..

My 103 hadn't had the problem..

The best to date info ( if we can believe it) is it is random tho goes back to 2014

My 103 did NOT do it but it was a cable clutch, seems to be affecting hydraulic clutches more

I dunno if the MOCO is hiding info and facts or just playing the waiting game JMO

My M8 has over 16K miles to date. I have NO problem

A side note, some are reporting problems @ higher RPM ( over 3500 steady riding) and after dyno time

I have had both experiences with NO problems yet:clapping:
