Lehman Monarch Trunk Lid

Hello everyone. I just purchased a 2007 Goldwing with a Lehman trike conversion. The trunk lid does not appear to close tightly(there is a gap) and leaks water when washing or when it rains. My question is if there is any adjustment to try and tighten the lid closer to the seal and if anyone else has this same problem. Thanks

Dan, There is no simple answer to adjusting the trunk door since there are a lot of adjustments to make the door respond. First, you need to identify if the gap in the door when closed is the same at top and sides. The upper portion of the door seal creates a valley that water can lay in until you open the door. Then GUSH !!

Mine is not a Mon-II, mine is a GTL with two simple hinges and a latch, and when I bought it I was warned about hard rains or washing sprays. I fiddled with latch adjustment until it seemed I no longer got water inside the trunk near the door. My dry test was opening and shutting on strips of paper looking for "drag" as pull paper out.

Then I bought a roll of weatherstrip that in cross section, is a hollow round section with a flat side that has stickum on it. Mine has a wide lip. It was some little bit higher than what Lehman used, so I just spent a spell adding, trimming the new around outside perimeter of Lehman's stuff, can't recall last time had moisture in trunk but it's withstood several good rain rides. My latch is set so a light push catches first notch, but I place a palm at center top and give it a push as I lean into it … to latch in tightest position.

I should maybe have added that when I do wash it, I remove the spray head from my hose and set water flow to a little more than a trikle for rinse. I'm guessing, maybe 1/4" gap between door "lip" and body of trike all around.

No easy but works

I had very much the same problem, adjusted, adjusted and adjusted some more! I measured I cussed:blush:, and I got totally P'O' so:

1. I took clear packaging tape and put it on the body around the opening where the seal should touch.

2. Then I put a very thin film of bearing grease on the tape surface

3. Then I cleaned the seal with rubbing alcohol to get dirt and grime off of the seal

4. Then I took a tube of black RTV and put a good size bead on the center of the seal, spread it smooth with a putty knife to approx. 1/8"

thick

5. Close the trunk, let sit for 4 days, (just a guess as to drying time)

6. Opened the trunk, pull the tape off the trunk opening

7. Cleaned grease off of seal with alcohol

Been leak free 4 years and counting:clapping:

*Note, may not be recommended but worked for me and that is all that counts*
