I want to add a trike frame on the front of my ford escort. looking for it to be 7 foot long(frame) I have a gs850 head tube/ front end . ?

#1 is that going to be strong enough. going for small rake angle. 30-35 degrees ?

#2 it has a alloy rim I think its from 1981-83 year model is that rim safe? ?

#3 what to look check for to see if rim is safe? ?

#4 tire on it now is a 100/90/19 is that size good for a trike. am looking at a hd 4ply tire. should I run a tube in it? I think the front end should be rather light so I think that tire will be safe.

OK SORRY SHOULD OF STARTED WITH THIS KNOW NEXT TO NOTHING ABOUT MOTORCYCLE STUFF. so please be kind if I ask silly questions. any and all advice will be welcome. thank you and GOD BLESS YOU-ALL.

Welcome to trike talk Brett.... probable most if, not all of your answers are right here between the vw and homebuilt forums. I'd encourage a lot of reading on your given subjects....then notice on the bottom of the page, links to other related threads on the same subject.

Take a look at the builds that are ongoing, and those that have been completed.

read up on leading link front ends, and look at stuff related to your upcoming project.

Brett........Ask away, We all had to start somewhere, And Like my Old Man would always say ;Son, [He always called me Son] Son the only way you are gonna learn is by asking questions ....And that way you'll get the answers that you need...ThumbUpThumbUp

ask away ??

i do think the 850 front is probably hefty enough but

dont make your front end too light you dont want a wheelie machine... also if its to light it will want to go straight...

35 deg rake on the frame, imo, is a great place to start... but with the stock tree you wont like it... it will be too hard to steer you will want a set of raked trees or leading link my 3 cents
