Hello,

I am new to motorbikes and riding in general. I am looking at the possibility of buying a Can-Am Ryker when it comes out. Anyone else looking at these? I am mainly interested in it for the price. I can't really buy a Spyder at this time. I like how the seat is lower on the Ryker than on the Spyder. I have some back issues and worry about being able to throw my leg up over the seat on a Spyder. Especially if it has storage on the back. Anyone have any tips or anything that you notice off the bat as far as comparison of the two? I know the Ryker is heavily stripped down. But I figure for learning to ride it will do me well enough. Since the Ryker is brand new I imagine there won't be much if any negotiating on the price when they come out. I look forward to conversing with the group and learning more about the bikes.

I cant say much about the Ryker yet but I use the foot rest to get on and off my Spyder. Step on foot rest lift leg straight up and over the seat ,plop butt in seat.

So I went and sat on a Spyder the other day. I couldn't test drive it as I don't have my license yet. I asked them if I could just ride it around the parking lot and they wouldn't let me. I tried both the F3 and also the Limited with the storage on the back. I didn't have as much trouble getting my leg over on the limited as I thought I would. I did have to use the passenger foot peg which was higher and slide down to the front seat. Then getting off I slid back up to the passenger seat and grabbed the passenger foot peg. It's going to be interesting how the Ryker compares.

My next dilemma is helmets. I got a big honkin' head. But I'll save that for another post.

Verticalscope has gobbled up some good forums and made them 'not so good' with moderators that.....Well, at least one that I think wanted to meet me on some dark street corner, enough said. I was a member on the well known forum, for some unGodly reason, I cannot get logged back in no matter what. Far as I know I haven't offended anyone over there, just my opinion, I'm easy going, but who knows? If I've stepped over the line here, Zook can delete, no offense taken.

Rhino, I think you have nailed it. Seems like there is no advising 'your fired', just block your log on. Can't even raise the 'administrator' to find out why, not that's just nuts. But whatever, life goes on and I still sleep well without all the BS.

to dave about the ryker

I am a new ryker rider. So far i have only driven it 100 miles. A few days ago i swapped rides with a ryker 600. There is a big difference in the cruising rpm between the ryker 600 and the 900. My 900 ryker cruises at 50 mpr and 5000 rpm. The 600 was at 5800. it may be my imagination but the 600 felt like its a lot busier at any speed.I prefer my 900 even if it cost $1600 more. I keep forgetting to put the trike in sport mode which does lower the cruising rpm a bit. I still am not used to the CVT and the noises it makes(AK, whats loose down there). I also don't know if it's me but the ryker feels like it darts around in the steering somewhat. As i get used to it, the darting has slowed down, and maybe just breaking in the parts helps out too. Can't ride it like my shadow cycle. I don't like the seat but that's probably because i am a big man that's 6 ft tall and like to stretch my legs a bit. The footpeg's are fully forward but i need about 2 more inches to be comfortable. I really can't do that with this bike. I will probably make a new seat that is longer, has a passenger seat and has a small sissy bar between the seats for the passenger.Stopped in a gas station today and put 2.8 gallons in it. So that figures out around 36 MPG. Not as good as i thought it would be but not bad.A friend has a spyder and says he gets 32 MPG. Most websites say the spyder gets 36 mpg, so maybe i keep checking the mpg and also see if my speedo is accurate.

There will probably be road pegs that could help with this issue as I'm sure you wouldn't be the only one. Lamonster Garage has ordered two I believe to start doing just that. And Spyderpops already has his to do the same but he's more into electrical stuff versus hardware although he does produce the bump skid for Spyders. So accessories will be coming.
