Buying a new 2019 Tri-Glide.

Went to a dealer in west central Florida with a female friend (She was the interested buyer) during one of their Saturday

"parties" and she saw a red FreeWheeler she liked. She walked around it, looked at the storage (a lot in my opinion),

and a little while later a salesman, who I noticed was watching us, came over. Friendly guy. She asked him " How much?"

His answer, and I quote word for word........."upper thirties" . I said...."Let's go" Out side I told her why .

Tom, I would have laughed in his face and told him why and THEN left all the while letting everyone in the dealership know why as you headed out the door.

Just leaving and not letting those in power know why, doesn't get that jerk taken out.. JMHO

Dealerships give up nothing

When shopping for my 2018 FLHTCUTG I went to the same dealer (Eugene, OR) four times. I was trading a BMW R1200rt with 30,000 miles. My strategy was to get them on the hook and shop around a little hoping they would drop the price or at least throw in some extras. No such luck. They didn't negotiate the price of the Tri by even one dollar. They refused to give me anything other than book for my BMW and no extras. I wanted a heated seat. Said it would cost an extra $450 and when I asked what happens with the stock seat I was told I could take it home. I asked about the WHIM and the salesman was stumped. Didn't even know what it was. Other dealerships weren't any more generous. During this process the dealer sold two other trikes. They know they will be sold and they hold out for the MSRP. After all was said and done they gave me the 7 year warranty for the price of the standard warranty. (which I think is 2 years). That warranty doesn't cost the dealership anything since all warranty work done is compensated by HD.

My wife tried to get them to throw in a Tee Shirt, and like most women, she's a professional haggler. Nothing doing. Wouldn't even give up a stinking shirt. Well, they had me. I left there with the trike and I won't go back there. Doing all my own wrenching and will go to the dealership here in Idaho Falls on Saturdays or when I need parts I can only get from Harley. No disrespect, but I also don't "Brand Whore" their shirts and bandanas and gloves and boots and belt buckles and stuff.

But I do love my Harley Davidson Tri Glide. Now, let loose the dogs of war and let me have it.

Congratulations as long as your happy I'm good we also love our Triglide however it is a 09' not the fastest to many not the best possibly by far but it is ours. The deal you made is yours Congratulations on the new ride post a few pictures and be proud of it. :good: Ride safe Fred

I think it'd be real hard to trade in anything other than a harley at a harley dealer

That said, I am finding them really trying to earn business, at least here in FL. We were at my local dealer out riding and the salesman was trying to get me to trade. He said let me ask the manager so just for the heck of it I said why not

He came back and said "I can get you into a new 2019 for 8500 plus fees and tax".

That was tempting. Especially with my 34000 mile 2014 103. We're heading back to Illinois next month tho. I may go back there at end of October when we get back and see what they have leftover in

the 2019s. If he can do 8500++ NOW, wonder what he'll do at closeout time? LOL

Tbird, that would have been an extremely fair trade. Even if he was adding dealer prep and some made up fees to bring it up to $10,000 difference that would have been pretty decent.

Just don't test drive one of the 19's whatever you do.

I would assume it would be black for that price.

Joe; Is there THAT much difference between the 2018s and the 2019s?

I'm already convinced the M8 is a better motor for the trike, this 2014 103 just doesn't have enough poop in it's pants to have any roll on power at all

I read Matt Laidlaws revue of the 2017 107 and the 2019 114

He was saying not that much touque difference and the 107 was more than enough for the tri glide

I am also seeing a LOT of 2018s down here with very low miles guys just traded to get into a 2019

However they're not much less than a new 2019 I think they're giving big trade allowances on the new ones.

But I'm also seeing quite a few of you guys trading 2017s for 2019s

I would also like the orange tried to buy one yesterday they were at 42500 and would not really budge off that. They say only 19 left in the country with no more being made. In two months it will be a year old. I would give MSRP today if anyone knows where one is.

Not sure if any of you have ever had an issue with your dealership raising the price $4000 from HD retail suggested price. I've been trying to negotiate for a 2019 Tri-Glide in custom color Scorched Orange. They raised the price $4000 because it's a popular color and in high demand.

First round, they low balled me on my trade in. Offered me $23000 for a 2017 Billet Silver/Black Tri-Glide. 15000 Miles. Excellent condition.

D-K Tour Pak relocation kit. Chrome Switch covers, Chrome Switch housing, Nice grips. 3M film on fenders, sides, ETC. Just had the 15000 Mi. service. Clutch recall done. 2nd round they came a little more, but not enough. Any way, about the 6th round, They offered my $28000. Better but no cigar. The bad part was, there was a guy sitting behind me buying the same trike. He eventually bought it. They tried to sell me a 2019

Tri-Glide in Twisted Cherry. Now this price was raised $2000 above the listed Harley Retail price. They offed me $32000 for my Trade-in. Because it was not a custom color, they gave me the higher trade price. Have anyone ever gone through this kind of negotiations? This is nuts. Went to another dealership, they had a Scorched Orange Trike for sale. They offered me 26815 for my trike. But at least they were selling at the HD retail price.

What dealer did you go to for that?

My dealer (Wild Fire) had a burnt orange TG back a few months ago when I was looking for a new one. Selling at MSRP. I wanted the red/silver - wasn't going to pay that much just for a paint job. The red/silver was more than I really wanted to pay too. :)

I totaled my 2014 TG last year and was looking for another TG. Dealer had just received a black 2014 TG - brand new - well it did have only 760 miles on it. My dead TG had 35K. I offered the salesman my deal = that TG out the door for the same price the insurance company gave me. After a half hour he came back and said I had a deal. I took everything off the dead TG (with the help from one of the techs and the service manager). Didn't charge me. I have spent over $200000 at that dealer since 1988 so I think a few freebies are in order. :)

I will never shop at a dealer that charges over MSRP = for anything!!! Thankfully I have a great dealer and if he wasn't, there are at least 6 dealers in my area(most owned by the same person) but a few renegades.

Gary you got a great deal on a low mile TG, can't argue with that. To those who are deciding on a color etc on the 2019 I would say "just get one" even if it's black. The 2019 has everything you'll need

in a trike, ask anyone who owns one how much more advanced they truly are.

I'm lovin mine!

Get ready to sit back and read this lol

I promised my Wife that I wouldn't buy a Bike till we moved out here and bought a house 1st.

You have to know that my wife will squeeze a buffalo nickel lol

So on day back in late 14 we went back to our Park model home here in AZ.

We were looking for a home and driving around a little every day.

Now on the way home one day she asks. OK have you been looking at Bikes yet.

I said yeah but nothing serious yet.

She leans back and get my HD map you get every year from harley and starts calling Harley shops inn Arizona asking what colors do you have.

None that made us think about buying came up. So off we go back to the house to get dinner.

While starting dinner Carmen's says go on the PC and see what's out there.

AS SOON as I turn it on and sales page comes up. :xzqxz:

2014 tri Glide $29,000 in Black.

So i jump on it and call the guy.

He asks how I got this number and I tell him it just popped up on my PC lol

I ask him is that price for a New one. He says No its had 5K miles on it its a DEMO.

It being 6:30 pm already and I ask when can I come and look at it.

He says not tonight i'm going home after I hang up with you.

So we make arrangements to meet when he gets into work the next day.

As were walking in I say to Carmen only thing that will spoil this is if they put a luggage rack on the tour pac.

As I walk He's standing by the door and greets us all friendly an smiles lol

So as we walk up to the Bike I see it has the luggage rack on it and my shoulders drop and I say under my breath so i thought ( oh Sh**)

He says WHAT ?

I tell him the story of what we talked about on the way in.He say your serious Carmen says yup he's never had one on any of his 7 bikes.

He just stands there and stare's at us. Shakes his head and turns around.

Then he say are dead serious about that.

YES!! I say and start to tell him Thanks but No thanks WHEN says I'll tell you what.

I have a Brand New one at my other store its bone stock still in box.

I give it too you gus for the same price.

WELL HELL we said sold at the same time lol. So after spending most of the day there talking to him and calling my credit union I ask him if I could go look at it.

He say hang on let me call them and he tells them we want to come looks at it.

The guy says sure come on down. He tells them its sold and to get it ready to deliver it at his store the next day. So we take a ride and to look at it and their getting ready to close up for the day as we walk in.

He takes us to the back room Low and behold its already up on a trailer waiting to go the next morning.

I crawl up on the trailer to look at it with a grin from EAR to EAR :).

Said see you tomorrow baby :)

That was because they had the New 15' already in the store and wanted to move the old ones out to make room.

Talk about a couple of happy campers !

I always go back and talk to him and he looks at the bike to see if I have a luggage rack on it ha ha ha. NOPE never will.

You see I'm an old Hot rodder and I like things nice a clean looking with not a lot of do dad's on my bikes.

I still have her and have No plans on getting a New on.

Thanks for reading this story.

I have a bunch more if you interested ha ha ha ha......................Rick

Did it

Took a 2019 Triglide home less than MSRP for a solid black one. Out the door. First ride 287 miles, stopped by a sheriffs deputy he advised we needed to seek cover storm warning, hail, 80 mph wind, heavy rain, rotation he took us to a shop owned by a friend of his waited for the storm to pass about 30 minutes then continued the ride some of it through curb to curb deep water. Home safely. Life is good sometimes an adventure but good. The TG kept up with my CVO Ultra just fine she loves it.

Negotiate

When we bought our new 2017 Tri Glide, the dealer had it marked up $2,000 from MSRP. We told them that we wanted the MSRP that was on the Harley website. They claimed it was the paint (black and silver) and hard to find. I said I visited 5 dealerships recently and that they all had them on the floor. I also said in a few more weeks you'll be getting the 2018's in and need to get rid of the 2017's. They met the website MSRP. I love my Tri Glide. I just looked at the 2020's. Wouldn't mind trading up.

Jerry, nice color! I have been lookin at

the dark blue/silver but twisted cherry

is really sharp! Good luck, any pros or

cons so far?

Well Richard, I have 10,000 miles on it so far. Took it out to Sturgis. Runs great. More comfortable than the 2017 I traded in for the 2019. Very happy with the ride. They got rid of the air shocks that they had for so many years. Blue/Silver is sharp too. Now that the 2020's are out, not much has changed. Might be a good time to purchase a 2019. Good luck. Jerry

Tell the Dealer to kiss you Azz, and go elsewhere. That stealership must think it is the late 90's. I shop around, two of my good friends (local hog members) tried to buy from our local stealership, each went back twice, and bought elsewhere saving $5000 each. They all pay about the same for new bikes, it is what place is giving you for a Fair Trade In, and not Low Balling Trades. Harley-Davidson Dealerships better wake up, we all are not getting younger. Metric or Indian dealers will give more for Trades trying to Appreciate and Earn your Business. Love Harley, but Wake Up Dealers!!!
