I have a 2013 Motor Trike Razor conversion on my 2008 GL1800. I want to replace the wheels with Motegi units. I have made several attempts to get the wheel size specifics from Motor Trike but they have not responded.

I know that the current wheels are 17 inch, 9.5 inches wide, bolt pattern is 5 on 114mm but the offset is eluding me. Does anyone have the full wheel specs I need in order to purchase replacement wheels for my trike?

The Motegi wheels that I am looking at is the MR137 in satin black.

Best we can tell is that they are 17 inch, 9.5 inches wide, 5 lug on 114.30, and as best we can measure the offset is only 1/16th inch. That offset is practically zero, I think it comes to 1.5mm.

1" = 25.4 mm divide by 16 =1.5875 or 1.6 mm ... so not a very big offset ... does it look like the mounting flange is almost in the center??? If so, I'm guessing you measured it right.

I did not do the measurements. The shop owner did those. I am going out to the shop this morning.

The wheels look like American Racings Torque Thrust. They are pictured on the Motortrike website but the specs are not given.

I have tried three times to contact Motortrike but they have not responded.

If that offset is correct, and I'm pretty sure the owner is correct, the offset seems to be the sticking point in finding a replacement that satisfies me....looks and color.

Sharp wheels ... can you measure the offset from your wheels?

how do I measure a wheel offset

To be completely up front and "blunt", we don't have the offset information for the wheels used. The way our system is set up, we can only view the basic part information & know the bolt pattern because it's a "small Ford" lug. The majority of wheels we order come from the manufacturer, most of which utilize a different part # than those used through resellers & the like (mfg part #'s typically will not pull up doing a web search either which is why specs can't be checked by "cheating" via a web search). Add to this, that not all of the wheels offered have the same offset/backspacing, some are because of the spoke design, some are due to limited size availability.

On our older wheels we did have the backspace measurement in our system, but not offset. Even on these wheels we STRONGLY encourage having your wheels spec'd out to ensure compatibility (this is still the best way to be certain they'll work).

As an example, a few years ago we had a customer call in wanting to know specs on our wheels. WE provided him the basic information & recommended he have the wheels spec'd out to ensure a proper match was made. Fast forward about 3 months or so & we get a call from a VERY upset customer who had taken the basic specs we provided & contacted a custom wheel company to make a set of wheels (If I remember correctly, was almost 2 grand in wheels?). He got them in and while they did "bolt up" to his trike, they would not work because the spokes hit the rotor and wouldn't let the wheels turn. The company that made the wheels refused to allow a return because they were made to the specs provided.

That's an "extreme" example of WHY I stress the importance of having your wheels spec'd to ensure fitment, but it's also a great example as to why it matters.

For trike tech: Thank you for the info. Apparently the wheels on my trike are not the MT stock wheels.

However someone at MT should be able to identify the specs for the wheels the conversion is using. Otherwise how would you know what to put on to begin with?

I looked at the MT website for the "accessory" wheels offered and if they are offered for sale there must be specifications detailing them.

This is NOT a condemnation just curious info searching.

Just for info I would have ordered the MT wheels but the color I wanted (black) did not seem to be offered.

For FuzzyWuzHe: Best One Tires in Crossville, TN and I spent an hour searching and phoning and have come up with a pair of wheels that should work. American Racing AR890.

For both trike tech and FuzzyWuzHe: Love my trike, and just wanna keep it looking good while Hannah and I ride the bejeepers outta it!

I understand what you're saying & your point of view (not saying I disagree with you either). All of our wheel options fit all of our current kits so there isn't a certain wheel for one model that won't fit with another, etc.

Jumping in the way back machine based on my understanding during initial kit development for IRS (back then I was in the shop & had ZERO involvement on the "computer" side of things) they started by test fitting the wheels we used on solid axle kits & our engineers provided fitment feedback to our wheel vendors. From there they provided style options within the specs that would fit, got samples in & made sure the "new" wheels would also fit our solid axle conversions.

Once confirmed our purchasing department set up the items in our system with the part information provided by the manufacturer(s) with the p/n's necessary for re-order. Everyone calls it something different, being a deskbound grease monkey I call it the wheel companies "insurance" that they retain our business by provided a "unique" part # that can't be readily cross referenced for alternate fitment information.

Heck, even the Performance Machine wheels that fit our conversions have unique part #'s that make them a "proprietary" item by PM & not a "standardized" wheel application (at least based on how the part information is set up it sure appears that way at face value).

Leaving the rest of my personal opinions & thoughts at the door on this one, like several items "made" for MT it's "the way it is". Didn't say I liked or agreed; but it is what it is :gah:

trike tech: There are a gazillion differences of opinion out there. I have had a Hannigan trike and I now have a Motor Trike. Regardless of the opinions we differ on, Hannah and I really like our trike and appreciate the work involved by any company in designing and providing them to us riders. Thank you. :):):)

Call them, I just talked to them about ordering a new wheel that I had damaged. 1-800-90-TRIKE • info@motortrike.com

Any updates on this, ever get a set of wheels that work.

I have a 2013 F6b with 15"x7" rims that appear to have a +6mm offset (4.25" backspacing) and would like to upgrade to 16 or 17 rims.

Can anyone with 17" wheels post the specs including tire size, wheel width and backspacing?

Or, better yet, if you have successfully installed aftermarket wheels post that information.

Thanks.

Here are the MT rear wheel specs.

Wheel size: 15 (381mm) x 7 (178mm) Backspace: 4 1/2 (115mm)Offset: 0.5 (13mm)LUGS: 5 lug on 4 1/2 / (5x114mm)

The offst is critical, too much nd it will hit the shock towers, too little it will hit the fenders

My 13 F6B with Raptor conversion (IRS) stock wheels are 15"x7" with ~ 4.25" backspacing... calculated out to 6mm offset. For those of you that have looked at these they are tight... not much room between brakes / suspension and rim. I ordered a set of 16" x 8" with 6mm offset and with the test fit I was able to slide my hand all around the inside of the rim without hitting anything. Got 225/15 16 tires mounted today and will try to get them on the trike tomorrow, should work out well.

Oops, lol. 225/55 16. Same width as OEM tires

Still too wide.

If you notice all of the us manufacturers stopped putting those wide tires on new kits.

I chatted with MT, and CSC at a show, and admitting without admitting it they told me that they quietly changed the tire sizes, because of the width, and weight.
