Help with finding age of trike

I recently purchased a 1988 gl1500 Lehman trike. Love it! It has a sliding drawer for storage as opposed to a door type access. How can I tell the model and year of the conversion?

Thanks,

Dave

Dave, During the introduction of the GL1500 and Lehman's trike building, there were several transitions in the trike construction until 1990. Between 1988 and 1990, Lehman performed a lot of so called one-off conversions with differing body features until they arrived at the Tour Model.

Dave,

When you get a chance, I would like a picture of that outside. I have never seen a model exactly like that one. It is truly unique and probably a one-off conversion. Really sharp !!!!ThumbUp

It looks like it has a modified TriGlide body and an internal swingarm, suggesting it is a much later conversion and not an original Lehman. None the less, it is beautiful, one of a kind, and with the lights on the back, a typical Lehman cosmetic touch.

The wheels used are the 2001 and later. The original wheels are probably shown below.

Finally have some pictures.

Nice find.

It definitely looks to me to be early '90s at the latest. I'm no expert, but Having owned ours since 2004, I have looked over a lot of Lehmans just out of interest in details, differences, etc at rallys, meetings, etc. You'r '88 based trike looks like the start of a pre GTL body in the fenders area. Looks a lot like the black one on Lehman History page for 1990, except with round fenders and not flat top fenders, so likely after 1990 I think morphing to later look. I have seen at least a couple with the flat topped fenders long ago. I do like those colors together, "different". You say the lower trunk opens like a drawer? I never seen that before that I recall. The extra LED lighting (ovals at rear, fog lights up front) is of later origin but the rectangles look period.

Are the passenger floor boards mounted to the bike or is the swing arm outside the frame and floorboards attached to the swing arm? I'll bet it wants a rake kit?

The all silver ASA wheels do look like ones used in '00s era, different than earlier ASAs that had dark grey accents. There were maybe several options. Picture below is of the 15"x7" ASA wheels that came in the kit on ours in 1998, it had 245/60-15 Dunlop GT Qualifiers then.

Anyway, how's it look in sunshine? Bet it looks sparkly! :)

Drawer storage

Here are pics of the storage area. Cloudy and rainy day, so no outside photos. Sunny tomorrow so I will take some then. I added the running/brake LED lights on the drawer. The latches on the sides were the best I could come up with to secure it closed.

Dave, thank you for these pics! That is an interesting design!

Does the bike have many miles on it? And I guess it still runs good?

You have quite the find... enjoy!

The bike shows just over 111,000 miles on the odometer. I had the radio removed to replace the air and fuel filters and when I got it back together, the LCD screen started to work! When I got it, only the clock display showed up.
