Just purchased a 2014 Goldwing with Motor Trike kit which has the running boards. First thing me and my wife notice is we seem to get a lot more heat when ridding in hot weather.

My question is are the trikes without running boards cooler?

My guess is there is a lot of hot air bouncing off the rear fenders and coming up on us. Do the running boards help or cause more heat?

Dave can't help on the running boards question......But in just a few short weeks [Fall/Winter] you will appreciate the extra heat......As far as the Summer heat....Remember you are sitting on a heat sink IE; The engine..

Welcome to the Gang from Western Colorado.

Yep, a little more heat with running boards, but a lot more rain protection. With the running boards, you trap engine heat between the front faring and the rear fenders ... with out them, it gets more air coming up from the bottom and the heat also can escape under the trike. You can move air by adding baker air wings.

Running boards, a little bit of heat at a stop, once moving the heat goes away. However with the foot warmer open, I get a lot of heat.

Hmmmmmmmm My Roadsmith (Goldwing) I get no heat, what's so ever with the running boards...

What model bike are you riding??

Are you sure the foot warmers are closed off??

I have a 2010 with the same kit and the left side is always a little toasty.

But over all its much better to have the floor boards then not.

Since the MTs boards are weight bearing. I usually suggest to new riders. Take off the foot pegs as they are useless and just use the floor boards. A lot more room for your feet and believe it or don't.

A lot cooler.

Mount a couple Baker Wings under the mirrors, as someone mentioned, that will direct more air where you want it and not break the bank, easy job. Then you can decide if you want more Air Wings or not. That's all that I have on my Road Smith and it works pretty good, my rides are in Florida so you ride when it hot and humid or you don't ride.

I have the 2104 Motor Trike Razor and never notice heat with the running boards. On hot days I am toasty all over. Not just my feet.

The Baker Air Wings mounted at knee height push/deflect a lot of air.

Open them as wide as needed in warm temps and close them in cold temps.. even though the air is warm, if you wear a wet jacket or combo of wet shirt/jacket or a Kewl vest, you will stay very reasonably cool .... and its great to be able to shut off a good portion of the cold air in winter.

The wings under the mirror help with keeping the hands warmer in winter...for myself, I’ve not found that they do much for summer riding...so I removed them.

I don’t have the running boards but don’t find an unbearable amount of heat on the feet if the toe warmers are closed...if needed, on the highway I use the highway pegs to put the toes out in the air.

A beaded seat under the Air Hawk helps also.

Open the vents on the running boards, and yes they are a bit warmer
