I bought my trike with 1700 miles on it. Since I have owned it I have put a 1000 miles on it and been stranded on the side of the road twice in the last 7 days. Last week it was supposedly a pigtail from Roadsmith's conversion that's under the windshield and controls a speedsensor amongst other things.

The torque light came on, the hill assist, and the engine light. The trike would not go any faster then 5 mph. At this point I had put less than 300 miles on it since I bought it. The dealer came and got it that day and discovered a problem with Roadsmiths pigtail. Something about not pushing down 1 of 2 pins. The dealer brought it back 2 days later and explained the problem to me and said it was fixed and they would contact Roadsmith in the hopes of getting compensated for there trouble.

Saturday I left for a 350 mile trip to northern MN , bike ran great but did seem to shift louder than before. This morning I left for the return trip and made it 349.5 miles and the trike locked up in 6th gear according to the gauge but the bike was actually in neutral I pulled over to the side of the road a 1/2 mile from my home and shut it off, hoping it would fix the problem, it actually made it worse as it would not start again.

I called my girlfriend and her and her son and I pushed it a 1/4 mile down the road, took a breather and tried it again for the hell of it, it now showed it was in 5th gear. I turned the ignition off and on again and it showed neutral and started up and I was able to drive it the remaining 1/4 mile home. The dealer is coming tomorrow to pick it back up again and says it is something wrong with the pigtail. I told him a $34,000 bike is not something I should have to worry about whether I will get home or not with it. He agreed. I told him if it happens again than that's it, the bike will be returned.

He makes it sound like Roadsmith has not figured out all the bugs yet in their conversion.

Clell also sounds like you may have had an installer problem. Did your dealer do the conversion?

Always a possibility of problems with first and second year production products ... sorry you're having issues, hope they work out.

Scotty said it best ... "The more complicated you make the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drains"

Don’t give up.

Don’t give up on it yet. With all the electronics on these bikes it is probably just some simple thing that needs to get worked out. I have a 2018 DCT w/Roadsmith Trike Kit that I bought with 1800 miles on it in April. I now have about 6800 miles on it and have loved every minute on it. I had a problem in the beginning with the DCT Transmission. Got that worked out and it has been great since. No problems at all with the Roadsmith Kit.

Best of Luck from Tennessee.

Can you tell me what problems you had with yours? I'm curious if I am having the same.

Problem I had was after the bike was really good and hot. I would come to a stop occasionally and it would be in neutral and the place that says TOUR would just flash. I could usually just shut the bike down and then restart and it would then go in gear. Took it to a dealer and we changed the oil. I didn’t know what type of oil was in it since I bought it used. Also noticed that the oil was a little low.

Dealer read the codes on the bike and it came up as low oil line pressure in the clutch. Changed the oil and haven’t had a problem in 5,000 miles. It was either something in the oil or simply because of the low oil level causing low oil pressure when it was hot. I really think it was the oil pressure. It had nothing to do with it being triked. Oil pressure is a sensitive thing in these DCT transmissions.

Hope that helps. Let us know what you find out.

I would be highly nervous with any conversion on a 2018 or 19, so I'm not picking on RS.....A rider wants to feel reasonably comfortable that something doesn't break on the long ride, or a vacation, especially if it's a new machine. Ya pay the big bucks, you expect enjoyment, not all up tight watching for the 'alert lights', or waiting for it to stall and quit on the road, somewhere. Gotta give the installer credit, he stepped up.

I just bought a 2017 Goldwing with a new RS installed with 7200 miles on it. I’ve since put 3,500 miles on it and not one problem with the RS or the wing. I really considered buying the dct but my wife and I didn’t like the seat for long rides. It never occurred to me all of the potential problems that come with a new model. Glad I picked the 2017.

3rd Party Trikes

I would like to see Honda start to manufacture trikes and Harley step up their trike.

I'm just saying.....we spend a lot of money on these trikes.

Ride safe....
