Hi,

is the Ride Planner still active?

I went to the Ride planner page and when I clicked on "plan your ride" all I got was a gray screen.

Also, in the address "maps" was greyed out.

Any other alternatives?

Thanks,

Jon

It is still active. Use this link: https://maps.harley-davidson.com/

I called Harley and it's evidently a problem with Internet Explorer.

When they tried to access the planner using IE they ran into the same problem.

They suggested I use Chrome, I did and it works fine.

Are you talking about the HD app? I used it going to Colorado & it worked ok.

Ride Planner Updated 2/22/2021

I'm resurrecting an old thread

It looks like the HD Ride Planner updated to a newer version. Just showed up for me today. There is no longer an option to switch between a "Preview" and "Edit" mode. Seems to have all been combined so when I simply want to "Preview" a ride I could accidentally make changes. They also seemed to have moved the "Avoidance" option (tunnels, highways, ferries etc..) to the lower left of the screen and added a cog to access that. It's still as clunky as ever and zooming is still awkward but all in all it's a pretty handy too for free use.

I'm using a Mac and I think that the windows version is just a bit different.

I have Windows and it looks just like you're describing today, and I was just on it last night working up a Natchez Trace ride.

Cannot Get Ride Planner Import to Work (into Boom Audio)

This applies to my 2014 Harley Tri-Glide.

I've tried the HD ride planner, and another site and tool that converts to the gpx file format. If I do things just right, I can get a file list to appear and then to get a list of items to import. But even when I get that far, no matter which (or all) items I select to import, I can never get any actual waypoints into the system to use.

I have ended up just using the map->where to feature entering each address one at a time.

Any hints on getting this to work? I've even reviewed the actual gpx file content and tried tweaking it in various ways but no luck (I'm a long-time software engineer so am comfortable looking at this kind of detail when needed).

Thanks all.

I use Harley Ride Planner and have had good luck with it. I have changed bikes, no longer have my 2014 but think to 2014 Boom Box works just like my 2021 GTS.

So, you mentioned that you can get the file list to appear. Not sure what you fully mean here unless you are saying the list shows on your computer. In any event here's what I do. Log into ride planner, create my route and then review it on my computer.

Next, i export the file - in doing so, it downloads a file to your computer.

Then, I put a flash drive in my system, go to my download and simply copy that file to the drive. Once these, I can then put the drive in the bike and import the file.

Now, there is another option and I don't recall if my 2014 did this. Make sure you have the HD app on your phone. When you do, all of the rides you save will show up on the phone app. When this happens, just open the app, find the ride and, send it directly to you bike. This has worked very well for me.

Hope this helps

Thanks Donald. I made some progress but boy does the Ride Planner seem klunky. So I think the main issue I was having was as follows:

1. When I typed in addresses it would default those to restaurant and NOT a waypoint

2. Didn't seem I could change that to a waypoint, so I added waypoints near the location then deleted the actual location

In my test I did, I ended up having a start location, an end location, and multiple waypoints in between. I was able to import that and it looked correct. I'll test it out hopefully soon.

I think it's finicky and you have to make sure your waypoints are correctly in a road and on the correct side- otherwise it will try to do re-routing stuff. We'll see.

You mentioned the "send it" option from the mobile app. I am not seeing that option when I pull up my saved test routes. Where is that option located?

Thanks much.

Looks like you are making progress. For the send to option. Open the HD app on your cell phone. Every ride you saved on the computer will not be on your phone.

Just open the app, look at your rides and you will see Send To Bike. I just sent my trip to the Iowa HOG rally to my bike. Also sent it to the guys that are going with me

After almost a dozen back-and-forths with the HD app support folks, they finally read all the detail I had provided them and came back with "Unfortunately, only our 2019 and newer models are able to send a ride via H-D app." - Oh well, I'll do it the manual way :)

Ride Planner abandoned??

Ride planner used to work fine. But over the past few days it is glitchy and full of flaws. I have used it extensively in the past and had no problems once I figured it out. Lately though it seems that Harley has abandoned it. I tried using Chrome and Safari with the same results. When I try to add a waypoint it either will not add it, or it adds a waypoint way off the route and changes the route so much that I have to delete it and start over. My map screen turns gray and only my route shows as a black line against a sea of gray screen.

This should be a downloadable program that resides on my computer instead of on Harley's web page. I am currently searching for a compatible program where I can create GPX files and upload them to the bike.

Try Honda Powersport Ride Planner - I have has some good results with that

Honda Trip Planner

I tried the Honda Powersports Trip Planner. It's much simpler than the HD Ride Planner, but with fewer tools. Most of which I didn't need anyway. The only drawback is that you cannot drag points to reshape routes. Have to add a "stop", which it treats like a waypoint. For some reason it wouldn't let me place one of the "stops" where I needed it, so I just got close then told the bike to "skip this waypoint". It was simple and it worked.

David - Honda is easier that most think. To reshape your route, simply put the mouse on the place you want to go. Right click and then add. Now go to the left side and move your stops up or down - this will reshape your route.

Thank You

Yes, that's what I did and it worked fine. Honda's Trip Planner has a nice "help" feature that is missing with HD Ride Planner. Honda's help file says that you can click and drag to reshape a route, but that didn't work for me. I'll experiment using it in Safari and then in Chrome to see what works best.
