Well my old Garmin is causing problems. I’ve upgraded the software & maps several times but the problem persists. When setting a route most the time it will lock up before arriving at the destination. Touch screen won’t respond and it has to be turned off then back on to get the unit to respond. My problem being I need a unit with a 3.5 audio outlet so I can hear it through my intercom. Garmin no longer puts the 3.5 audio outlet in their GPS.

I have read of individuals who have opened Garmins and installed this 3.5 audio outlet terminal. Anybody have any experience with doing or having this done? Thanks

J&M has a modal that plus into the CB connection under the seat that would allow BT connectivity ... opens a world of possibilities ... no odd noises in the system with it.

Right now I’d like to stay within the stock system. Bluetooth....... maybe in the future.

I just went through this myself. Contact Sierra Electronics, they can tell you what you need to make it work. It will be about $100.00 to get the parts you will need to connect the GPS to the intercom system. https://www.sierra-

mc.com

I have the device sold by Sierra that inputs my GPS voice into my intercom system like a third passenger. It mutes the radio when GPS speaks etc. This leaves the built in Honda aux port for open other applications. Just works so well for me I hate to change things around.

I would put a link to it on Sierra’s site but can’t get it to work right. It’s called HONDA GOLD WING GPS AUDIO INPUT INTERFACE on the Sierra website.

Thanks a Bunch, for some reason I couldn’t get the link to work.

This device really works very well and as I said it leaves my aux plug for a couple other devices.

Since Garmin quit putting the 3.5 audio output in their units I might have to have one of the newer units adapted.

i guess I’ve got pretty much all winter to decide as I’ve got nothing planned I don’t know how to get to for the remainder of the year.

Dennis, along with this part that Gary said to get you can add the Bluetooth Doogle Product IDSIE-USB-BT-DONGLE and still be able to have your 3.5 plug to use for other things. Call or email Sierra electronics and they can go over what you need.

Sorry for taking so long to get back in touch and discuss this. Thank you for your suggestions. I spoke with Sierra back in the spring and I guess we could have misunderstood each other. I ask them the same question I posted here, if they installed the 3.5 audio jack in new GPS units so I could continue to use my Garmin in the same manner I currently do. It was my understanding the only option was a high end Zumo which had a 3.5 audio out jack.

My question what does a dongle do?

Dennis, The dongle allows the GPS to connect by bluetooth. It will also let you connect anything that is bluetooth capable. These two parts from Sierra Electronics will allow you to connect your Garmin to the intercom system on your bike. It works like a third passenger through the intercom.https://www.sierra-mc.com/proddetail...od=HG-GPSIN-GL & Bluetooth Doogle Product IDSIE-USB-BT-DONGLE

Thanks again and Thanks to all who have the patience to hang around and help. There are things that puzzle me and for some reason Bluetooth does just that. Eventually maybe it’ll come to me just what connects to what. In the meantime looks like I need to talk with Sierra. I’m pretty fortunate as I’m less than 2 hours away.

Problem is you need a GPS with either a jack or that transmits bluetooth.Without spending big bucks, buying used,or buying another brand of GPS your only option is doing your own jack. The dongle would be fine if your GPS transmitted and you wanted to be cordless.

I need to clarify my previous post. I purchased a Garmin Zumo 396 LMT-S. When Talking with Sierra Electronics, they said the parts I need to integrate the GPS to the intercom on the bike are .https://www.sierra-mc.com/proddetail...od=HG-GPSIN-GL &Bluetooth Doogle Product IDSIE-USB-BT-DONGLE. Not sure what other GPS's this will work with. The Best way to know is to contact Sierra Electronics with the GPS you are planning on using.

I like, as you do, to listen to the Garmin. I have a dezl 760. It's a 7' display with an audio output. I used the EZ Mount and put it on the windshield vent. Our of the way and in my line of sight.
