Volkswagen Kit Cars

Well.....I lost a month being sick with covid.

Then trying to get work caught up for the next few weeks.

Just now getting back to the project.

Got some poly race seats and determined the seating position.

Now I know the height for roll bar.....so time to get on some chassis building.

Thanks for the well wishes. Still getting strength back. Some odd stuff....little things are different now.....for instance I don't like coffee anymore also my other favorite root beer.

Bending tubing.

Not a lot done....but a little here a little there.

Have been collecting electronic bits and soldering on circuit boards.....a have most of the engine electrical now......just piecing it all together. No pics of that.....it is all out there in the back seat of the truck right now. Might pull it out and solder some more.....might remember to take a pic.

Cut a splitter for the front. The big tabs sticking out the sides will bend up and become a mounting point that ain't quite worked out yet. But it is easier to cut metal off than to put it on.

Worked all last weekend.

No other big work done on project.

Have bent on a piece of tube here and there, cut a few mount tabs, ect.

I have done some soldering a couple evenings.

The funny little car is not a Bradley......it is a Vokaro. Fairly rare (500 made) and looks more like speed racer.

But it is a simple body in the same way a Bradley GT 1 is.

I did find a Bradley GT 2 body, it is much more of a car....doors, windows, ect. It is what got me interested in kit cars, but if were to build a GT 2 it would have to be much more modernized that what I am doing here. This Vokaro is supposed to look like a late 50's/early 60's Euro racer. I wanted to do the GT 2 but it would be much more involved....later drivetrain , full interior....ect. So...this Vokaro is much simpler than that vision.

I have done some tube bending and fitting. just tacked in right now, but the rear roll bar mount and the bar itself is made and tacked.

Now fitting the front roll bar.

It has been a fight to get a location of the parts settled on. Everything you measure to/from on the body is all un-even/not the same from side to side. Just previosly when settling on the body placement....I have to measure and draw a line down the center of the body to alighn to......so the wheels stick out the fenders the same.

Now with the cage it is going to be all whop sided to match the body. It will look right with the body on....but with the body off I suspect it will look oddly un-even.

Significant body drop going on.....currently 4-1/2" ride height as it sits. with full hard bottom out at 2" off the ground.

The body went on and off there a lot of times.......making all that tubing hide in there and the body stit down over it all.

But it is in its final resting place.

Aluminum floor boards made and body flange all bolted down.

Worked on the seat and 6 point harness rearward mounting points today. All this connects through the body to connect directly to the roll cage.

No pictures of it though.....just tabs and brackets tack welded to the tubing.

The 70's fender flairs are gone now.

Of course with drop spindles, spring drop, pie cut and a body drop......even with the low profile 23" tall tires .... A lot had to be hacked out just to get the body on.

So cut to clear, turn ect now
