Greetings Fellow Trikers

A couple of Days ago I Introduced Myself and was greeted By a warm Welcome ,

Thank You :) .

Upon Intro I Quickly encountered a Newbie in South Africa .

The conversation quickly devolved away from Intros to

The procedure to Build and Get Your Masterpiece on the road legally

So I am moving the conversation here .

Now Im Kiwi , living in Western Australia , and hail From NZ . :NZ:

My first trike was in Auckland in the 1970's .

Back in the day there were few criteria , yet there Were some Rules of engagement .

Such as Producing all receipts for Your Parts , either from the vendor or wrecker .

Get a Warrant of Fitness , Trot off to the Ministry of Transport .

All of a sudden You were Rollin Thunder , Pissing off the entire Neighbourhood .:behave:

Well That trike was a street stopper , with a fatal Design Flaw .

Lousy Brakes and poor pedal to Master cylinder linkage

Sure enough I wrecked that trike and damned near Myself . :doctor:

a couple of Years work and enough Money to buy 2 brand new cars .

Long story short My next trike was the New Improved , Mk 2 version .

:repent:

That was last century .

New country new rules

Here in Aus there was different rules in each state . Now being a Kiwi I knew there is an alignment in regulations , AS / NZS .

Now knowing the basics I decided time for Mk 3 . ,,,, :topsecret:

Now a shout out to Alan_c .

Alan intro'd as being in South Africa wanting to build a trike .

My advice is unless You have large tolerance for pain , want to retain Your sanity , :russian-roulette: Keep Your marriage , :sadbye: not go broke .:toilet: Buy one and carry on .

The reply was I quite enjoy engineering .

Ok a bit of a mooch and found the rules are pretty similar to what I had been dealing with .

So being the pedantic type that I am . So what Do You guys think ? Would You like Me to Document this Journey ? :pokey:

There are glaring Mistakes in this build Non complying items , yet it must be made known that these omissions were not required at the time of build and there had been further ADR changes in 2018. The Trike complies with the rules that applied at the time of Building .

As this ride is called "Unfinished Business " cos I doubt the bastid will ever be finished .:xzqxz:

Im a cabinetmaker , so don't have skills like welding . This means Ive farmed out items such as the welding upholstery , and used off the hook parts where I could .

If You would like Me to carry on I will .

The disclaimer here is , I only want to Put this post up if its ok with the hosts ,

and as a for Your interest only , Any contributions or corrections will be most welcome ,

I want to play nice .

Pictures!!! We love pictures! I believe that I can speak for the group and say Bring It On. The members of this forum are the most supportive group I've ever run into. It will be good to see what's happening in Oz and hear about your dealings with your bureaucracies. Take some time and peruse some of the build threads in VW Trikes and Homebuilt Trikes forums to see what's come before you. i think you'll be impressed.

Hope it's not your area but I'll bet you can give us some fireproofing tips :flame: :AGGHH:. Really sad what those folks are going through. They're in our prayers.

It is not that hard once you get it figured out, much easier if you read the thread about it, it was helpful, LOL

Pictures, yes they do help everyone else see what you are doing or talking about. Many more idea's or suggestions are developed this way and I see most all builders getting things done. ( I am just trying to get my trike to be a safe ride )

Glad to meet you, glad to see you alive to build another trike.:D
