Just curious would anyone be interested in a Trike gathering here in Pennsylvania State College area would be a natural place to have one it is in the center of the state with a great two lane road system criss crossing the area. Just curious maybe sometime in August if not this year possibly next year before the school year starts? Just curious  Fred/Jeanne

Hi Fred,

Good question, another member and myself have put together the Northeast Trike Rally for the last few years after one that was scheduled in NH fell apart. We live in the same town, Torrington, Ct so in one way it made it easier to get together but our riding areas are similar. It's been held once here in town but we don't have a good selection of hotels to choose from, the one it was at, dropped down a notch every year since. Other members set it up in Vt a few years in a row and then we did it in the Catskills the last three years.

NY is tricky because the hotels are smaller and more expensive and are usually booked out early in the year. I'm looking at either Lake George area or southern Vt for this year and nothing is set in stone yet.

So far no one has stepped up to the plate and volunteered to tackle this. It takes a few people to make it happen, look for a hotel, search out rides to do and places to see or go. If your interested, let me know....

I believe "Happy Valley" State College area would be a great place for an event like this plenty Hotels available Interstate highways, as well as first class two lane roads and many many things to see and do. I believe I will snope around and see what can be done. This would not be a one person undertaking but group of people looking to make a Trike gathering a memorable event. We shall see where it goes. Ride safe Fred

I would start small, we found the more trikes the harder it gets to plan rides and if only one person knows the area, then everyone is doing the same ride. In some cases it's fun but I went on a larger ride this past summer and ended up going on our own and skipped the next days ride. As a ride leader, I am comfortable with 6 to 8 trikes....

If this year is too late to put this together for you, think about planning for next summer. The biggest problem is getting members to commit, the place we had it last summer wanted deposit payments by now or else they said they were giving the rooms out to whoever calls. If your in an area that has a large number of hotels, the prices are better and more options, but unfortunately, we don't have that in the northeast. I head down Rt 81 all the time on my way to Florida and I always pick a hotel that's near others, usually lower cost and more choices for dinner.

We had a few members from Pa this past summer but it's a haul up to NY, Vt is even farther and I don't think they are coming up this year.

If I can help, let me know....

Realistically next year would be the sane thing to plan on. State College is in the center of Pennsylvania all sorts of Motels and hotels because of Penn State University is the reason for the city. In the Center of the mountains it is a great place to ride. Again we shall see with a little leg work in the area we may be pleasantly surprised with the level of interest. Iron Horse Harley and an Indian shop are only a mile apart on US 322 East of State College. Rts. 322, 220, 144, 26 and a host of others are there close by. A few phone calls I have unlimited long distance so rainy days I may be busy. Thanks for the offer to help. we will keep in touch. Fred/Jeanne

Fred, we would be interested in seeing a PA rally put together. Some interesting places to plan rides around may be Pine Creek Gorge (PA Grand Canyon), Horseshoe Turn in Altoona, Penn's Cave in Centre Hall and Flight 93 in Shanksville.

Doug you are correct there are so many places of historical interest as well as sights to visit. It will take a great deal of planning and thought for it to be a success. Next year would be the soonest I would consider doing one. :good:travel safe Fred

That sounds good, last year OlBandit, Bill brought up a crew from PA so I'm sure he would be interested in a more local rally. I think we are going to book a hotel in southern Vt for this year, it's called Kitzhof Inn in West Dover, Vt. We don't have the date set yet, but it will most likely be either the weekend before Labor Day or the weekend before that. So far I've had really good luck with weather so hopefully I can keep up the trend. If your interested would love to have you join us.

Just to keep up started gathering literature on rides already established in PA. As weather breaks we (bride and I) are going to check out venues and local chamber of commerce offices in and around State college. A lot will be by phone (unlimited long distance plan) LOL... and a lot of face to face. Inquiries. Anyone interested to help and contribute let me know I have no Ego we just want to plan a successful Motor gathering in Central Pennsylvania. I would hope riders from the surrounding area would have an insight to great places to ride as well the amount of time involved doing them. :group:Travel safe Fred

John and I and the girls are planning on heading up there on March 22nd to check out the place and then stop for lunch someplace. If your not skiing and would like to join us, we can meet up someplace with you and your wife.
