OK folks, time to decide the dates for MV, Labor Day falls on Monday the 7th of September this year so we're all for the the 7th thru 11th as usual. I need to get a sort of consensus so I can let Papa know the dates for him to start the conversation with BW. Also I know a lot of folks get there on Sunday the 6th so maybe he can wrangle a special rate for any of us also.

C'mon and chime in .

I'm good for those dates. I plan on getting there on Sunday. I will be leaving San Diego on Thursday providing this virus is well under control and it's a four day run for me to get there. Besides that Monday is my birthday.

I'm thinking this will be Bill and Millie's year, seems 'something' has gotten in our way the last two; however, it will be on the 2020 Spyder, the White Whale GW is gone to another home. News has been so ugly this year, I need something 'uplifting'.

Talked to my friend "Tri-Greg" today, he's good with those dates and looking forward to catching up with everyone.

It's been 12 days since I posted these dates so that's what we're going with, I'll get a hold of Papa and see what he can do.

Maggie Valley Update

Just talked to Michael, owner of Best Western Maggie Valley and here are the rates he gave us:

Monday Sept 7 - Thursday Sept 11: Reg Price $90 our price $79.99

Sunday Sept 6: Reg $129.99 our price $109

He has 25 rooms blocked for us but after August any un-booked rooms will come off hold.

Is this the Same Best Western?

Yes. I've seen this before in past gatherings in other locations, it is not at all uncommon to find prices a few bucks cheaper (sometimes more than a few) being advertised by the discount sites like Priceline especially 3 or 4 months out. If you want to save a few bucks, go ahead and book now before the prices for the "few remaining rooms" left at that price are gone.

Understand the fact that Michael is committing to holding 25 rooms for us at a good rate starting right now and right up close to the event, even though the rates will steadily climb between now and then as the hotel starts to sell out out due to peak season. Not discouraging anyone from buying through Priceline if its a few bucks cheaper, just telling you why its this way. Nothing unfair on Michael's part, he's always treated us well.

Notice the Priceline ad says "We have a few rooms left at this rate." You don't necessarily get to pick your room location doing the instant booking through Priceline online, and the prime rooms are down front and tend to get sold out first. I recommend our group book directly through the hotel and tell them its the Trike Talk group.

No problem Will...when this came up several years ago with a Texas hotel, I got upset at them for trying to pull a fast one on us. In that case though, the price spread was much larger and it upset me that the public rate was cheaper than our group rate. I had a conversation with the manager of that hotel and he explained to me what I just explained to you and it did make sense. The hotels are in the business of making money, so I cant really blame them, but that said I feel Michael is and always has been very fair with us.
